Yeah, I agree.

Timmonen is easily the best one of the bunch, but he's no spring chicken.

The rest are quality NHL d-men, but not much more than 2nd pairing guys, really.

I'd still gladly take Meszaros, Coburn or Grossman though, if the price is right.

Darren Dreger@DarrenDreger3m

Streit is 4 years at $5.25 mil per. Confirmed. (No seagulls).

I think someone needs to explain to Philly that you get a total of 2 compliance buyouts over the next two years. Not 2 per year.

Interesting to see what they do to get cap compliant.

As a 35+ contract that is guaranteed cap hit for the duration. Seems risky to me.

All factors considered, Do you like the Streit $5.25 or the Wideman $5.25?

I'm risk adverse to any 35+ pact, so give me Wideman's all day.

Do the Flyers ever learn? So many stupid moves the past few years.

Timonen has taken a big step back in his game. Coburn and Grossman are Philly's best D men.

Would be a good contract if he was 29/30 years old, but as a 35+ contract that is crazy.

Capgeek shows the Flyers as $7.8M over the cap right now. Too funny.

Darren Dreger@DarrenDreger2m

Streit's agreement will also include a limited no-trade. He would submit a list of teams he would be willing to move to.

What happens if you trade that player with 1 year left, and he retires after the trade?

The new team gets the cap hit (say it is a floor team trying to make due) but doesn't have to pay him his salary?

Isles, Sens, Panthers, Preds, Oilers, Stars come to mind, plus probably a few others as well.
The list is smaller than that. The Isles and Panthers have internal budgets.

I used to like Holmgren. The Flyers have drafted very well under him but he's starting to look like a desperate GM. I am sure that ownership has been involved in moves like the Brysgalov one but I don't think that team is anywhere close to as good as the one that was in the Stanley Cup finals a few years back. Including this contract that is a lot of money for a pretty mediocre blue line.

They traded a pick and a prospect to get that deal done?

With a NTC?

Would Streit have gotten any more than that as a UFA?

That's for sure. It reminds of when Darryl was here. Maybe Darryl was better at "grade ten math" though because that puts Philly at -$7,802,262 capwise.

Yes, but both teams are currently below/at the cap floor and both have salaries totaling less than what their actual cap payroll is.

Damn, that's pretty steep. Doesn't matter though, Sven will surpass him as the greatest Swiss hockey player of all time!

Not even remotely true. Timonen still is hands down the best D guy on that team.

They also have to extend Giroux next season too which will be another $3M more.

And Schenn and Courtier they need to get extended which will probably be another $2-5 million depending on the contract they get (short or long and the season they have).

Oh Philly.

Sounds a lot like Darryl Sutter.
