This is very interesting. If Shanahan is hired, would he really replace Feaster this close to the draft?

It'd be a pretty disastrous time to make a GM switch two weeks before the draft/UFA period starts, unless the move is internal (Weisbrod), so the new head guy won't need to learn the ins and outs of the organization.

So you're telling me we could end up with a hockey guy in charge of hockey-ops, no more Feaster, 3 picks in the first round, and management legitimately starting a rebuild? Is it Christmas already?

Shanny would be nice as we could goon it up and avoid being spotlighted in those suspension videos

IMO Weisbrod came at the wrong time, he's a smart guy, but I'd rather see a full house cleaning of management and not just half measures.

Excellent players don't necessarily make successful transitions into non-player roles (see: Gretzky)

It isn't the matter of the President interfering, it's that he interferes with hockey operations when it isn't his field of expertise.

If it were me I'd immediately appoint Weisbrod interim GM. At least then we wouldn't be leaving this critical juncture in franchise history in the hands of Fred Flintstone, nor would we be bringing in someone brand new with no knowledge or context.

Then after the draft, start evaluating other candidates.

Serious? I actually find it hilarious that people get their panties in a bunch about King, then shoot their load over the thought of bringing in people like Burke, who would be 10 times worse.

Shanahan would be intriguing though. Unlike the other names, he doesn't have a history of being a me-first attention whore.

Crazy if this all goes down before the draft. Do they walk in with the scouts list as compiled right now or will they have to crash course the whole new ideology of a new Pres and GM in less than two weeks? I understand if they have to make the changes but poor timing by ownerships part if true.

I think the time left before the draft for a replacement is overrated. How long would it really take an educated GM to realize that we need everything and be able to run our draft.

UPDATE: Shanahan and Ken King were just spotted in downtown Calgary heading into a meeting. Maybe this rumour isn't as far-fetched as once thought. From the same report as earlier linked.

In other news Kisio has moved up to be the President of Hockey Operations of the Hitmen. Maybe we'll see other restructuring of the other Flames properties.
