I read a few draft reports on the players in the poll. Very tough decision. I went with Curtis Lazar because I believe he'd be the BPA out of the group but also because I want centers, centers, centers in the prospect hopper.
I think when Tilley looks at the results of what appears to be a 3 horse race in the early going he doesn't ask for ok let's do this again but with only 3 guys. However, Bill Bumface could be the sleeper pick here at #22.
I really don't think we need another goalie prospect. Gillies and Brossoit could be potential franchise goalies, but once again it's too hard to tell at this point. Ramo and Berra are two huge what-ifs as well...
I would personally go with Zykov at 22 if he is still available. We are abysmal on RW at the moment.
I would love to snag Hartman at 28, but I think 22 is a bit early for him.
Samuel Morin for me (not on the list). He was ranked around 30 before the WJC but has since risen into the teens on a number of lists. If reality is somewhere inbetween then he should land right around our pick at 22. I would definitely go for a 6'7" Dman who is said to be a quick skater for his size and with a big shot.
"Minute-munching, shutdown D-man w/tons of long term upside. Emerging mean streak."
Sounds pretty good to me.
If Morin is off the board already at 22 then go for whichever RW or D is considered BPA. Hopefully a bigger guy like Erne or Zykov instead of a little guy like Petan. We have enough of the little skilled guy in our system to compensate for letting St.Louis go. Now we need to add the big skill guys that are going to compliment those little guys.
Considering Zykov won't be there at 22 IRL, I have to go with him. He'll go in the teens.
Definitely would rather have a power RW than an offensive d-man in Morrissey.
Curious why you think he wouldn't be there. I haven't seen a single article or mock draft indicating he'll crack the teens. I think in real life Zykov will be available at 28. Great prospect, but this draft is too strong.

Morin was already taken (Columbus?) in this mock draft.
I see Curtis as a solid NHL player. As I wrote at the outset, this is a deep draft. I think Curtis is in the mold of a Derek Stepan. I think he is still finding his way with respect to slot. Is he a center? Is he a winger? I see him as a solid two-way center if he plays there but as a skilled winger if he moves to the wing. Either way, Curtis has versatility and is a competitor. Again, this is a deep draft that will see players drafted in the 2nd round being very good NHL players and perhaps stars.

Thanks, I am worried that is what is going to happen in the real draft too since Columbus has those 2 picks right in front of us. Buffalo could also have the same line of thought with their 2 picks. Either team could think "grab offense with the first pick and defense with the second".

I literally did enie-minnie-miney-moe between Morrissey and Zykov. Would be great if we got either. Morrissey sounds a heck of a lot like Brodie did when he was in junior.
