Gillis prefers high-pace hockey, I don't see Martin or Torts being a fit for him

That's because there was no list of candidates. Feaster wanted to hire the godfather of his kids. Feaster gave Troy Ward a courtesy interview and that was it.

Sutter would be Flames 2.0. Aging core, cap troubles, defense first. Vigneault had a lot of set plays, a lot on the cycle, and I would be intrigued to see if Brent added any value.

Tortorella would be interesting. Can't see him endorsing the Vigneault approved diving to get PPs. I remember the year the Canucks broke out, nobody had them picked as a playoff team, and now they have worn out their welcome.

With the cap adventures, fun times ahead!

Rumor has it that the Aqulini's are big fans of Torts while Gillis made derogatory comments about the Rangers' style of play. If Torts is the guy, we will know who is really calling the shots in Vancouver and the degree of meddling their ownership does.

My birthday is coming up and I've asked for Tortorello to be named. Best birthday ever.

It is indeed odd that Gillis would interview a coach to who he has openly criticized.

Hopefully Ruff doesn't land there. He coaches a good team game and could improve them, especially in the short term.

What did Gillis say? Did he say it this year? Can you link? I have read rumors that Torts was high on Gillis' before Torts was even fired.

Well if it's only style of play that Gillis criticized... Gillis did keep a AV and had him coach an offensive style so I assume that Gillis thinks he can and will dictate the team's style of play and Torts is capable of coaching it.

If my memory serves me correctly, weren't Tort's system fast paced and offensive minded with defensemen frequently joining the rush? That was the system he employed with the Lightning and in the first couple of years with the Rangers. With that said, I think the Canucks are trying to more of a grinding team.

Torts isn't my favorite candidate but he was only defense only in NYR lately, he can change his system

also where was Ruff confirmed for an interview? I never saw that

someone on the team yesterday said they are being very in depth and doing it like a lot of NFL teams do interviews (the more people you interview, the more ideas you can gather from those interviews from the people you don't hire)

my guess is unless Stevens bombs the interview it's him

Unless Tippett doesn't re-sign in Phoenix, than he goes straight to the top of the list

I personally like the idea of interviewing as many good candidates as possible as well. I hated how the Flames just handed the job to Hartley last season and can't believe the organization let that happen after seeing what happened when Darryl just hire his guys like Keenan and Brent. Simply not learning from the past.

The rumor that McLellan could be let go has been answered he signed a extention today so VAN can cross him off a potential list as he would have been #1 candidate should he have been made available.
For selfish reasons i want Torts to be hired there and drive the media crazy out there.

Yup that is the number one reason for hoping they hire Torts he will have epic wars with all the jerk media in the city.

Well if there was any media in the NHL that needed to be tuned in it's Vancouver's.

Yep. Not interviewing other candidates is fine if you target a coach like Mike Babcock. But Hartley?

My friend just texted me that ESPN radio is reporting that Tortorella got the job as Vancouver head coach. Anybody else hear this? I have a hard time believing that ESPN radio has the inside scoop on Vancouver's next coach.

The only thing I've seen on that is this tweet from last night:

Quote:
BroiledSports™ ‏@BroiledSports According to ESPN Radio John Tortorella will be named the head coach of the Vancouver #Canucks as early as next week
Not really the most reliable source.

Unless he tells you over Skype it's probably not legitimate.

Team 1040 said this afternoon that the final four candidates are Torts, John Stevens, Scott Arniel and Lindy Ruff.

Stevens started out as the lead candidate but Torts talk is gaining steam.
