Depending on our off season moves, Brodie may never see 25 minute games all of next season. I like Brodie but he's not ready for that ice time.
No he isn't. But he's going to play that ice time. He's going to make mistakes. And he's going to develop. And after that, he'll be way closer to the player we all think he can be than if we coddle him.
There's nobody we get in free agency that can play number one minutes. We'll likely be able to land a Scuderi. Nobody better or more worthy of top guy minutes than Brodie.

Put Brodie with a guy like Webber and see the results....
Not trying to compare the 2, but Josi's agent as more to go to war with, with the type of minutes Josi got this year. Brodie played mostly on the 5-6 pairing until the trade deadline. Hopefully Feaster can use the shorter time that Brodie had against tougher competition to his advantage. If Feaster is any good at his job then Brodie should be able to be had for less.

Just look at the contract Subban got, and that was after a lengthy holdout. If Brodie gets anywhere close to 4 million per year, I'll be choked. He should be getting less than Subban did.

I fully agree and Feaster probably should have had Brodie re-signed for less than Subban by now. This signing while great for Nashville, just gave Brodie's agent a reason to ask for more.
Judging by Feasters last couple of signings and re-signings, it's not hard to imagine Brodie's agent taking Feaster to town. At least we will have Brodie locked up for a long time but the money might not be great.

well, playing with Weber obviously has its perks, but Josi also led Switzerland in TOI at the WC and was named the tournament MVP after scoring 4+5 in 10 games. I think very highly of Brodie, but right now, Josi is the better player.
Not sure why feaster waited to get conversation going with Brodie. Bumbling along letting others set the price while they spent time on low % things like in person presentations to Danny dekayser.
My god does every thread have to turn into a Feaster bashing session
I am sure there could be a thread on the colour of the flowers in my garden and someone would find a way to bash Feaster about my garden.

look at the Blues RFA thread. Armstrong has much better players whom he hasn't talked to or signed. He said this is pretty much standard MO, that he won't talk to them until a week or so before the draft, and RFAs don't typically sign until July
Brodie is not a 3m per year D man. Never mind a 4m per. The kid has played a partial season and a shortened season that is it. 20 min a night on a bad hockey team.
If his agent tries to get more than 2.25m per he should be kicked in the junk. Really they should be able to sign him at 1.7m, he was making 741k.
Brodie and Josi aren't comparable players, Brodie won't be seeking, or getting, a contract like that.
Yes they are comparables. Whatever the view on relative talent, age and games played, etc means Brodie's agent uses Josi's contract amongst others. Brodie doesn't get a contract like this but the average of the comparable group just went up.
To the other poster worried about more feaster bashing, tough not bring feasted (can we just use autocorrect result of feasted for feaster?) into this.

I agree that the two are comparable. But it's important to keep in mind that Josi gave up UFA years. The chances are it was the Preds who wanted to sign Josi long term and that was the price it took. It would be foolish for Brodie's agent to ask for 7 years at $4M per year if the Flames are not willing to sign Brodie for anything more than 4 years. Like Subban last summer, Brodie has absolutely no leverage.
The way it works is that the Flames likely wants to sign Brodie at #5 Dman money and have the contract end one year before he hits UFA. While Brodie's agent either wants a short term contract and have Brodie prove himself as worth $4M+ per year or have the contract end the summer he's eligible for UFA if he's to sign for anything less than $4M. It's either gamble and pay more now or risk paying more later. We see that a lot in 2nd contracts.
This is a jumping the gun kind of contract that other GM's hate to see occur for a guy that hasn't really accomplished anything significant at the NHL level. Is Josi a nice D man that still has plenty of maturing to do yes is he worth this kind of money and for almost the NHL max for time no. NSH did this because of what happened with Suter once he became a UFA. I think this is a reckless contract to the rest of the teams dealing with players that are similar.
