I never drive in that area. So I hope the proposal comes to fruition and everyone gets mad and gets ticketed!

This sounds like a challenge. You guys want to grab some lattes and see who can get the highest speed in that stretch?

When don't they just lobby to make the district a pedestrian-only zone if they are so opposed to cars?

Instead if lowering the speed limit, they could recreate the road to be like the road that leads to Laycock Park, the only logical speed is 5 km/h. If you would go faster than that, your wheels would get ripped off.

I lived there once but I have become anti-Sunnyside. I hate Druh Farrell and I hate that the city always seems to be bending backwards for this community of yuppies. I've been bypassing Memorial Drive and driving through Sunnyside for years as the area has become such a pain in the ass I figure I may as well drive through it everyday to try and get a brief feeling of being part of something special.

Plus the bums. I have a friend who lives around there and there are always bums hanging around his alley. I don't get the attraction of the area. It's expensive, there are a ton of run-down rentals, the houses are old, parking sucks and there is nothing to do that can't be done in better neighbourhoods with better prices.
It sure has vocal residents, though.

It's a pretty convienient location. You have close proximaty to Kensington for people that think they matter, can hit either deerfoot or crowchild in quick fashion and downtown is a walk away as you can live the downtown life without having to live in a high rise. It's easy to see why it's desirable. I just wish we could go a year or two without this community putting itself front and center.

I guess I'm just grumpy at being called a yuppy, I've worked hard to cultivate my image as a latte-sipping elitist.
I want to make it very clear that I am going to be a voice against this ridiculous proposal though. Still haven't figured out who is behind it, it definitely has not come from the community association.

Hmm, we've encountered none of those types of problems that you had Fotze (except being trapped during rush hour if you need to get out via car). Perhaps a different street can make all the difference?
We get the odd bottle picker coming through before garbage day, but they usually travel by bike and are quite polite about it. Perhaps because our back alley is also a front area for the housing co-op we get much more pedestrian/vehicle traffic so it tends to keep that kind of activity limited to other back alleys?
