I like my coffee like I like my woman, cold and bitter and ulcer enabling.

You'll find a lot of this buying large roaster coffee. The public equates "overroasted" with "classy/French" and seems to love the taste of burnt beans (see: Starbucks). A more mellow Italian style Dark is much more preferable, though for a breakfast coffee, Light/Medium roasts are always the best because of their higher caffeine content.
If you can contact an importer, Cuban Serrano Superior is likely the best Light/Med you can buy for under $20 a pound, but it goes in and out of season and can be tricky to buy.

Yeah, at their prices you kind of have to make it a bit of a special event in your head, and pretend like you know what you are talking about, and saviour every sip. Otherwise you're just going to kick yourself for being some yuppie idiot who just paid 6 bucks for a frickin latte.

When I buy Jamaican it's typically just 1 cup in a French Press. The Kona Blends I buy are from a trusted shop that blends them in-house, and uses 25% Kona.
Folgers is Robusta, not Arabica. The taste difference would be hugely noticeable.
|
I was just exaggerating about the folgers, if you've got a shop that does its own blend, I'm sure it's totally fine.
The two places I've bought bulk Kona from are Greenwell Farms and Kona Joe. Visited both plantations and they've both got good operations, their standard 100% is around 30 bucks a pound. Kona Joe has the fancier stuff that's 50 bucks and up, but at my tasting level I don't think the difference is worth it.
For those who hate dark roasts, Kona retains its nutty smoothness at any roast level I've tried. I know, not within most people's budget, but after drinking it, going back to the non-Hawaiian stuff is difficult.

I mix Kicking Horse Kootenay Crossing with some French Vanilla. Full Kona is pretty good too.

My future mom in-law told me (so it's like 99.9999% accurate) that McDonald's coffee is actually starbucks blonde roast.
Anyone else have "issues" with Tim's? Does something wonky to my GI tract.
I'd have to say a nice my pref. is a medium Columbian/Latin American blend... Guatamala Antigua from Starbucks is what I brew at home.

I usually drink green tea but if I do have a coffee and I have the time to go get it, an Americano from Beano on 17th ave is my go-to choice.
