From my understanding the hard plastic on elbow and shoulder pads cause a lot of the injuries.

Good on him for calling out a rather stupid and unjustified ruling. Not like it will make a lick of difference but at least he had the guts to say something.

RIP open ice hits, even those that are shoulder on shoulder are suspension worthy now it seems.

The NHL is getting to be a joke.. I didn't find anything wrong with that hit or that comment... Its funny how TSN didn't show the comments or report on that.. I had to go look for the comments.. Odd....

the hard plastic they use now for elbow pads, knee pads and so forth, in my opinion, has alot to do with these injuries. Back in the day of felt, players doing the hitting could feel the impact almost as much as the player getting hit.

Obviously the poster you quoted was referring to the long-discussed motion of forcing players to move about the playing area in large, inflatable balls suspended two feet above the ice by cables.

Unless the new CBA changed this, and I doubt it did, the league didn't have that option. It can fine a player or it can suspend a player, but not both. Suspensions, being without pay, already carry what amounts to automatic fines - except in the playoffs, of course.

As to this fine, I am surprised at how steep it was. Very few organizations take kindly to managers speaking publicly against the company, so in that respect, the fine should have been expected.
