I don't hate the Leafs as a team, or their fans. What I do hate is the media hype. So on that basis, I am happy to see what happened. I like Crosby as a player but hate the media hype around him too, so if not for Iggy, I'd be cheering against the Pens as well.
Related, Mudcrutch pulled out his spreadsheet and calculated that a collapse such as what happened last night can be expected to happen to a team about once every 4758 years. Or, in a 30 team league, would happen once overall every 160 years. Ouch!

I am a total closet fan for the Leafs. This is probably for the very same reason many of you hate them. The media hype is over the moon. Any time anything goes remotely well, it's like the second coming has happened. It's incredible how excited the media, and subsequently, the fans get when anything happens. Didn't they have a media story about how the locker room clock was 6 minutes early? That right there is incredible journalism.
Also, the team and the fans for the most part are just positive people. It's the complete opposite of Vancouver fans, where in Vancouver its to the point where it's not even fun to be a fan. Many fans here take it way to seriously. Toronto, on the other hand, has learned to live with mediocrity, relishing any small victories that they had. I'd much rather be a TO fan than a Canucks fan. That's for sure!

I don't hate the leafs, I hate leaf fans. Last night with about 10 minutes to go in the game I started to get texts from them on how good they were, and that they would beat the Rangers in the 2nd round. After the way they lost the game, I had to send the text back to them.
I enjoyed that...

I find the Leafs brand of hockey respectable and entertaining. Lots of good guys on the team, both in terms of personality and skill. I don't even find their fans annoying. Most of them can admit when they suck and cheer on their team proudly, without putting down other team's fans. The media hype is slightly annoying, but most Leafs fans I know also know this and laugh at TSN/CBC when they make outrageous predictions or claims. Leafs fans don't buy the Phaneuf hype. They know that Reimer isn't the second coming of Patrick Roy and they realize that their team wasn't good enough to win the cup this season no matter what CBC told them. For those reasons, coupled with the fact they aren't a natural Flames rival and are the worst enemy of the Montreal Canadiens (possibly the whiniest, most ignorant and temperamental fan base in pro sports) makes the Leafs my second team.
Yesterday was a sad day.

Mudcrutch obviously hasn't watched the Flames, then. They've blown a lot of leads in recent years, and a couple of big ones against Chicago.

As insufferable as their fans are, I've got to give them credit for being more civilized than the Canucks and Habs fans. With a 3rd period collapse like that, they still didn't burn down their city.

I actually don't notice the media hype around the Leafs. TSN to me, doesn't really seem that biased about the Leafs - I hear it all the time, but when I watch it, I just don't see it. Sportsnet Pacific however? Now there's a clear bias to the Canucks and much, much worse than TSN. I understand the whole regional thing, but I really don't see Leaf bias on TSN.
That's why it seems like hating the Leafs is just the popular thing to do. I can understand if a guy like Cheese hates the Leafs, 'cause he grew up listening to non-stop Leafs talk in the 1930s, but for the younger guys, I just don't get it...

They're almost always the first story on SN and TSN. They're only virtually every 5pm on Saturdays on HNIC

Like I said before, if this was an 82 game season, there was no way the Laffs would have made the playoffs even if Reimer/Scrivens played lights out. Last nights game is proof of that. They don't deserver to be in the playoffs playing like that.

Something doesn't seem right with his math. Maybe he articulated it wrong in his article or made a typo but his calculations don't seem correct. I've highlighted the paragraph that doesn't make sense. Nonetheless, still the biggest choke job I've had the pleasure of watching.

Well said even though I am a diehard Flames/Bruins fan i feel bad for the Leaf fans getting crushed like that. But I loath the overwelming Leaf media. Of course I was over the moon crazy that the Bruins pulled that off.
Same goes for the Pens, I respect Crosby and think he is the best in the game today but the media favoritism of the Pens makes me dislike them as a whole team. Really wish Iggy didn't go there.

You should probably have read his blog entry before typing your post. It would have saved you from looking incredibly stupid in your rush to take a pointless potshot against the Flames.

I actually like them. I haven't heard any guff whatsoever from their fans. The media coverage doesn't bother me at all I couldn't care less. Some people I think are maybe jealous that the Flames don't get the same spot light it seems but I prefer not having that that to having every game under a microscope by CBC and SN.

I don't get all the hate for the Leafs. All the TO fans I've ever met have been pretty down to earth and respectful fans. Yeah, they know their team sucks, but cheer for them anyways. If people go up to them and generally act like penis around them while trash talking their team, then of course they are going to fire back.
