That said, I'm always willing to walk away (I don't have a good bluff so if I'm willing to walk its because I am).
The only time I've gone in to a dealership to buy was when my wife and I went in just to test drive.
I hated it. Mostly because it was a spur of the moment weekend thing and I had no research done. Test driving a used civic not knowing what the new ones cost wasn't my thing.
We didn't buy, but it's nice to know where to look to get more information.

Personally, I love negotiating. With most car dealerships it's a game and you have to know how to play the game to win. The "I'm walking away from the table to think about it move" can work. When I bought my first new car, I used this tactic to get an extra grand off the car, which is significant since I it was only a Chevy Aveo. When I got up from the table and said I was going to think about it, the salesman said "uh, let me talk to my sales manager" and lo and behold I got the price I wanted.
It also worked when my Mom was looking for a car. The salesman wouldn't budge off their bottom line, so we got up and walked away and an hour later, the sales manager left a message that they would meet the price we wanted. Well, they ended up losing a sale because my Ma ended up buying something else in that time.
