This is why my kids won't be playing hockey. Sacrificing your health is not worth it.

Judging by the Fraser CT scan, I would wager one gnarly golf ball..

They could always put on a full cage till they are 18. If proper safety precautions are met, the benefits of hockey far outweight the potential risks.

Plus, your kids won't grow up to be a bunch of p-ssies.

Ridiculous. There's still only a 1 in 30 chance of them playing for the Leafs if they even make the NHL.

The united autoworkers strongly fought against banning smoking in automotive production plants, I would say that qualifies for making the workplace less safe for non-smokers so the NHLPA are not alone.
The company usually mandates the safety policy and the union lobbies against the specifics.

Okay then, against having the right PPE. Is that better?

Looks like the person in the scan has had at least 1 nasal fracture. Couldn't tell you if it's old or new though.

Fraser isn't the first NHL player to have his skull CT leaked though - Todd Fedoruk's surgically reconstructed CT face is floating around the internet as well. Apparently Richard Gere's abdominal CT is too...

They should honestly all wear cages. You can still take em off to fight.

Honestly, is this something that could gain ground in the future? Was back in the past with football you didn't have to wear facemasks, but for obvious reasons that changed. Kids begin playing hockey with a full facemask. Would it hurt their game that much if they never took it off? With the risk of a puck, or even a skate hitting your face, it's not worth the risk of your own head getting damage, or worse.
