I didn't see anything on that link, what are the repercussions for not complying? Of course I'm assuming that nothing would be known until an accident as well.

We often will rent a car in Alberta in the winter for a long weekend getaway, and this would be a bad idea, as rentals here just have (terrible) all seasons on them.

Pretty easy to throw a set of chains in the trunk - you'd still be in compliance.

Not really something I'm going to do with a rental car though.
