Does anyone have the success % for players drafted 10-20 & 21-30?

Just flipping through Wikipedia I didn't see too many great names stick out although you'll get exceptions like Claude Geroux occasionally.

I wouldn't get too attached to the PIT & STL 1st rounders..

Do not trade future first round picks. There's a very good chance those will end up being lottery picks.

Not every franchise center is drafted in the top 3 picks. This is a deep draft year and the other center's available at our pick could turn into a franchise center as well. Mackinnon and everyone else in the top 5 picks could bust while whoever we pick at 6 could turn into the best player in the draft. I realize that is unlikely but just because we won't get Mackinnon doesn't mean we wil automatically draft a bad player. Whomever is available at our pick is a can't miss prospect and will be the best prospect we have drafted since 2003.

Should have lost two more games in the regular season.

I can't torture myself anymore thinking about drafting MacKinnon. Damn you Stryker.. damn you. >.>

Well the doppleganger for this trade is the RGIII trade, where the Redskins moved up from 6 to 2. And all it cost them was 2 additional firsts and a 2nd. Honestly top picks are nice, but guys like Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk Brendan Gallagher, PK Subban, Kris Letang...all second round or later picks, and better than many top 10 picks. Its about how you draft and who is drafting more than where your picks are.

I'm with you on this though. I was so upset when it became evident that he was outside our draft position. MacKinnon has it all.. and imagine that, he's an actual centreman.. (by all accounts I've seen/heard, there isn't some giant risk that he goes to the wing)

Sigh.

I wouldn't be too hung up on missing out on Mackinnon. Seeing how far away we are from being competitive we will likely be in the Connor McDavid sweepstakes

Which is why a package including Calgary's 2014 first round pick might be a starting point to a package not including Baertschi or Brodie.

Wouldn't be too surprised to see Feaster trying to move Backlund, the 6th, and one of the 1st rounders to get into the top 3.

I think a bit about Burke getting the Sedins. Started with the 3rd overall pick. He made a bunch of trades starting with McCabe and the next year's 1st round pick for the 4th overall pick. Then he sent 4th overall and two 3rd rounders for the 1st overall. Then he traded the 1st overall and another 3rd round pick for the 2nd overall. Seems pretty easy in hindsight but clearly highway robbery.

I would hope we don't give up too much for him. MacKinnon stock is sliding, and many have him now going 3rd. The drop off to 6 is not as huge as posters are making it out to be.

This would be a pure disaster for the Flames long term. I'm not sure people understand how long next season will be. To have to sit through it with no hope of something to show for it at the end would be terrible.

I would have to imagine that if the Flames wanted to move up, one of two scenarios are the only likely way it happens

1. Find a team that would be willing to move down for their guy (ex. CGY 1st + STL 1st)

2. Package the pick with a young, NHL effective player. Unfortunately I think that would consist of only: Brodie, Backlund, Baertschi or maybe Gaudreu

What about

To CAL: 2013 1st round pick (2nd overall)
To FLA: 2013 1st round pick (6th overall), 2013 1st round pick (from STL) and Roman Horak (C)

?

When you look at the cost to upgrade picks that meaningless winning streak before we called up the farmhands was real expensive.

I don't think Feaster will be able to move up this year. Historically there's been a few trades but every time the teams trading down weren't sold on who was available. In a year like this where all the scouts are drooling over the top 4 it ain't happening unless you make a trade that would be so lopsided as to defeat the purpose (building a contender).

For this we need to think outside the box. We join the KHL with special dispensation to keep our $64M cap. Than we draft MacKinnon and sign him for $5 or 6 M. Florida can't match and a few years later when the KHL is absorbed by the NHL we get to keep MacKinnon and maybe McDavid as well.

I don't think there's any way that we can move up to #2 without giving up more than we can afford, but #3 might be possible and MacKinnon could still be available then. Would you be willing to take on Lecavalier's contract as part of a package to get Tampa's pick?

My preference would be to take Lindholm at 6 and use the other 2 first rounders on BAP's.

Someone will have to tell me if I'm out to lunch on that. Is the diference between Mackinnon and Lindholm such that you do whatever it takes to move up if you have the opportunity?

We are trying to build assets. Please don't trade them away.

NHL talent is available for the takings in the top 10. -Especially- at 6.

We are not a McKinnon away from anything at this stage. No point trying to rush this group.
