Meh. Jones and McKinnon are can't miss; others are very good. We ain't getting #1 or #2, so may as well settle down and be patient. Anywhere top 7/8 and we'll get a good one, if not great.

It's more about having your choice of a lot more players than being left with more leftovers at 7.

It isn't close to as big a gamble.

I've been away since Cundari started playing, and I'm pretty impressed. If he has the aptitude to learn a bit more about being effective in his own zone, we might have actually gotten ourselves a nice little bonus in the Bouwmeester trade!

Also, how was Horak ever sent down this year? He is an NHL player.

Backlund signed a 1 year with something to prove. He's proven it. Sign him long term before he's expensive.

Flames need to close the gap between us and other teams (ie. draft a difference maker this, and likely next year as well).

Simply keeping the distance isn't good enough because teams with already deeper prospect pools will draft in the 5-12 range too which means they are actually likely to move ahead of us, not to mention teams getting studs like Jones or McKinnon...

I've been saying it for a while now... The top three are excellent.. With maybe Barkov making it a top four.. But there are 3-4 guys after that who could easily be the best players from this draft as well they're just not as refined as the top guys.

I'd obviously rather than top pick.. But I'm not crapping my pants if we end up at 6th or 7th either. It's a top heavy draft.

Which means that a bunch teams we're competing with will add a same caliber, solid player to their prospect pool already deeper than ours, no? That's why drafting higher than them is so crucial.

No one's crapping their pants, but drafting top 3 this year was THE chance for us to close the gap, rather than simply maintaining it (even that is a big if).

Seriously though... what could have been done? Worrying about our draft placement is like complaining about our spring weather.

I'll be crapping my pants until we make the pick and I'm sure, if we don't take Lindholm, I'll be like NOOOOOOOOO

... but it won't take long for me to accept that whoever the guy is, he will immediately be our best prospect. Which is exciting.

To be fair to Switzerland, 3 of the 10 top goal scorers are goalies.

Really liking Cundari so far.

Like a spark plug out there, does a little bit of everything....and he can really blast the puck.

most of these teams are garbage. The 3 stooges of the SE Division, Edmonton, Colorado... These orgs have been doing this for ages. For all the crap we give Edmonton they're running something special down there too.

Not really. According to NHL.com he's 9th:

Only 275 points behind Streit!

Wikipedia has failed me.

It said Luca Sbisa was Italian.

Sure, top three would be amazing. Don't get the whining about it though.

As for your first comment... I just don't get your point. I am not worried about any other team besides the Flames... other teams are going to draft players, that happens every year. Everyone but the Flames in this group has a high draft pick already.. Edmonton, Tampa, Carolina, Colorado etc... these teams are just poorly managed and coached.

The Flames need a top pick yeah but if they do their job and are managed and coached properly I'm not worried about it. Edmonton has three first overall picks and are fighting for another... I'm not "worried" about it.

So aside from blowing up the team, playing rookies and Joey Macdonald with more than their usual ice time, tell us how the team could have done any differently?

Besides 'they could have rolled over and died'. Or is it the kids' fault several teams in the middle of a playoff race couldn't be bothered to beat an AHL squad?

Backlund is for real, the kid is all over the ice - forecheck, backcheck, decent in the f/o circle and man does he works hard. Was only credited for one takeaway but his stick is knocking pucks away all the time.

I think him and Bärtschi are going to be good for us for a very long time.
