This is a blatant way to circumvent the traditional extradition process. The only time I expect to answer to United States Law Enforcement Agencies is when I'm in:
A) The United States
B) A country they've invaded
C) A country where they've been propping up a favourable regime
Canada is a soveriegn nation and the RCMP should not be sanctioning this type of thing.

You know, this is the second time that this has been posted, and it is certainly a cool looking quote, but I really doubt that Ben would feel the same way today. Its a different world with different threats and you know what, Oceans are no longer the unassailable defense of Liberty.
I know people somehow think that bringing up quotes from long dead leaders and presidents makes them look smart, I do it all the time.
But in context you might as well be saying "Fire new, wheel maybe round" then nodding your head intelligently to get a ooooh reaction from the crowd.

If there’s an arrest, there’s two options: we could prosecute in Canada, or there’s a formal extradition request. There’s no situation here where we’re talking about someone apprehended in Canada and is summarily returned to the United States...due process that exists today will continue to apply,” he said.
Facts eh? Who needs em?

I sent the following to my MP, Diane Ablonczy, who is also Minister of State of Foreign Affairs for the Americas.
Quote:
Hello,
I just wanted to write to express my strong opposition to allowing any US agencies to be accredited as Canadian officers or to make arrests in Canada. We're a sovereign nation, and shouldn't be allowing armed foreigners in our country enforcing our laws. I've voted Conservative every election (and for you since I moved to this riding) since I could vote ~10 years ago, but I'll vote Liberal next time if this goes through. Their attack ads about Stephen Harper's secret agenda for guns in our streets would have come true. I would hope as Minister of State of Foreign Affairs for the America's you can take action to ensure this doesn't happen.
Canadian and American police agencies are currently locked in private talks over how to effectively launch pilot projects that would allow American agents from organizations like the FBI and the US Drug Enforcement Administration to be accredited as police officers in Canada, with the power to arrest individuals on the street like any Canadian cop." http://www.embassynews.ca/news/2013/...n-canada/43707
So if the existing process is going to continue to exist, why do they need to allow American officers to operate with authority in Canada? Are they implying that the RCMP or current extradition policies are insufficient?

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
What bad guys? Canada is one of the safest countries to live in. It seems to me that our police forces have things pretty much under control. Why do we need American police enforcing American laws in OUR country?
Sure it is safer than other countries but that doesn't mean they aren't criminals up here.
Based on what I have read about it it won't change all that much in terms of what goes on today and the people targeted would be criminals from America that pose a threat even if the safe paradise of Canada.
If our police forces had everything under control they wouldn't want to work with American forces to target specific criminals by making this agreement with them.
I'm taking this as a big banner being held up by the RCMP and even local law enforcement that says "WE'RE INCREDIBLY INCOMPETENT AND NEED AMERICAN HELP TO DO OUR JOB".
This goes against everything I've learned about police from TV shows. Local police hate it when the Feds pull jurisdiction on them, imagine how Nash Bridges would feel if Feds from another country took his perp!
