Not the greatest reaction by Keith but that was a terrible line of questioning, seems like she was fishing for a reaction. Can see how he'd become irritated with that. Vancouver media.

This. It was a dumb question asked to a player coming off a loss. If Keith was really being sexist he would have said something along the lines of; "leave it to a woman to ask a stupid question like that". Do you really expect an NHL player to show up the officials after the game and say "yeah I should have been penalized there."?
Keith was was a jerk about things but like I said you ask that question to a player on the loser team of a fierce rivalry and you are essentially poking the bear.

I do believe that Keith was being a jackass but not buying the sexist argument. In my opinion, he would have said that to anyone. He played the "I played, you haven't" card, but I don't think you need to have played to know what a slash is. Given Keith's history with Daniel Sedin dating back to last year's elbow, it was a fair question to ask. When Keith dropped the very cocky "see ya" at the end of the clip, that just capped off his condescending tone. No need to talk down to a person like that.
Karen has handled this great. She's not making a big deal of this at all. She's a tough lady, this is already water under the bridge.
Keith being a jackass? Yep. Keith being sexist? I'm not buying it.
|
I agree with you, but it is interesting how your on air collegues are making her out to be a greenhorn, and Keith '...smelled blood... and took advantage...'
Who is being sexist, playing the 'poor little girl card'. If I was Karen, I'd be more pissed at my co-workers for making such a big deal about it.

Stupid reporter asking stupid questions. What a joke of a reporter, what's the qualifications these days? She must be real pretty as I can't see how she got that job.

That's quite the tantrum.
We have really low expectations of people if we can't even expect basic decency because they lost one unimportant game.
And of course it was sexist. Her gender has nothing to do with it, so the only reason to bring it up is to imply her opinion is less valid because she's female.

You're going to make an ignorant statement like that based on a 20 second clip? Joke of a reporter? Joke of a post.
She had every right to ask that question. Keith has a history with Daniel and he gave Daniel a pretty good whack on that play. He got defensive because he didn't like the question because she was challenging him a little bit. Is that not journalism? She was trying to get a different answer from him.
Or do you want the same cookie cutter questions and the same cookie cutter answers?

She sounded like a butt hurt Canuck fan and got what she deserved. Loved Keith dismissing her stupid question. Hope she was happy asking questions outside the box.
Does she challenge Canuck players?

To her credit she's moved on from the incident.

Getting stupid questions is what Keith asked for? It's not the first time a reporter asked a dumb question and got talked down to and it won't be the last.
Maybe it'll help her become more professional because she comes off as amateur hour. Really wonder how she got a job, but I guess radio is all about knowing someone to get in the door.

For sure, she was asked to do national interviews today and turned them down so as not to make a big deal of this.
She clearly wasn't asking the question to make a name for herself or anything.

Her job is to ask questions but this is one of those questions that will never yield a desired answer. If you poke the bear would you not expect to possibly bitten? She didn't deserve such a rude answer but she also didn't deserve an great acknowledgement either.

Then what was the point in asking a question that had no possible answer other than to push his buttons? Of course she didn't want national coverage but her question could not possibly have been answered.
What was your thoughts on slashing a guy?

I don't think anyone is handing her any journalism awards any time soon. The only reason this has made a couple headlines is because some people are taking this to be a sexist remark from Keith. Had he said it to Botchford or another male reporter, it'd be a footnote at best.
I just think it was a rude and uncalled for comment, but not a sexist one.

Keith could have answered the question without being a dink. He didn't need to talk down to her to answer the question. I get that he was frustrated because of the loss, but it's not like she was talking down to him, so there was no need for him to go there. It was a jerk reaction.

Yeah it was rude no doubt and it feels uncomfortable seeing a player talk to a woman like that but I guess if women want to be treated equally in the workplace it's par for the course as there have been much ruder things said by athletes to male reporters in the past.

I'm surprised you didn't jump all over Keith for his lack of professionalism with his response. Amatuer hour indeed.

Speak of not handing out any journalism awards, the Vancouver Province deserves to be shut out for a long time for putting this hed on its product: Duncan Keith is a D***
Pure Vancouver ######baggery.
