Pivotal game.
Let's not kid ourselves; we have passed the Oilers for good and I fully expect Flames will finish ahead of Nashville, even with a loss today.
But, I think a loss solidifies 7th (pre lotto) pick, so 8th at worst.
A win and it's a whole other territory - and that 10th pick or 11 pick (potentially as low as 12 with lottery) a very plausible scenario.
Really pivotal

Need a loss.
There... I said it. First time

They won't win again this year. Maybe one loser point at best.
That is already a lock.

Feaster needs to take the kids out for Beers and Wings right before the game to celebrate their 3 game win streak.

Well I may be alone, but I hope the Flames win as I always do.

Getting all these young guys game experience against NHL opposition is one thing, but winning despite the departure of Iginla and Bouwmeester must be building their confidence in bounds and leaps.

We're still going to get a higher draft pick than we've had for a long time and I have confidence our scouting staff can get a top guy. Plus we have three first rounders to look forward to. So let's keep the confidence high in the room and help the kids believe they belong in this league.

I agree. The Oilers have created such a draft hype that people here seem to forget the whole point of this game is to win. Nobody knows how any of these draft picks will perform. Lots of young guys fizzle out, some will under-perform, some will take a lot longer to develop and burn their ELC's on the way. Fact is, you never know what you are going to get from kids this young.

So in the meantime, I'll be cheering for them to win and for the kids to have success. Plus finishing ahead of the Oilers should be the goal and not a disappointment.

This game is HUGE! If the Flames lose their final three games in regulation there is a small chance they can still pick top 6. I feel a bit better that it's in Nashville in that they they may feel pressure to put in an effort tonight but man have they ever been horrible. It's like they decided they weren't going to make the playoffs, traded Erat and flipped a switch to shut the team down.

Bah. The goal should be to ensure that next season is a repeat of this season and that starts with collecting the best players available in the draft. Every time the Flames win they remove options at the draft table to finding a franchise player. It's a sad sign of the times that everyone needs instant gratification rather than concerning themselves about long term.

So you're already cheering for a tank next year? Akward. I'm not going to cheer for failure like the clown show up north. And to me instant gratification is cheering for the team to lose so they can pick an 18 year old player you've never seen play in hopes of a 'win-now'. I'll cheer for the franchise to have success at the draft with the hand they are dealt and for the players that we already have to develop to the best of their abilities. But not for the team to lose games.

Given the amount of bad luck the Flames seem to have surrounding them these days, it would not surprise me if they win tonight and continue to ruin their draft position. Great for team morale and it builds that 'winning attitude' with the young players we have brought up at the time for next year, but lets be honest, if we play ourselves out of a draft pick to land a franchise C, we will be paying for this for years. The only way we lose this game is if Nashville starts Rinne and he stands on his head and is the first star of the game. Otherwise, it's a win and we continue to climb in the standings.

I think the Preds will lay a giant egg and the Flames will roll to a gift wrapped victory.

How many times does it have to be said;

WINNING AT GARBAGE TIME HAS ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING ON FUTURE SEASONS. THERE IS NO CORRELATION WHATSOEVER BETWEEN WINS UNDER NO PRESSURE AND WINS UNDER THE PRESSURE OF MAKING THE PLAYOFFS. FEASTER HIMSELF HAS DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE FOR HIS TEAM TO LOSE BRINGING UP HEAT PLAYERS AND PUTTING THEN IN THE LINEUP. THIS IS WHAT FLAMES MANAGEMENT WANTS AND RIGHTLY SO.

There is no correlation with the Oilers and their futility. They are the extreme and not the norm. There is a reason even well run franchises like the Devils, Hurricanes, and Predators are tanking. It's akin to folding a bad hand in a game of poker. Playing a bad hand to the end results in losing.
