If Cammalleri is sticking around next year I'd like to see him with the C. Its going to be either him or Giordano. I would like to see Backlund get an A next year.

I;d say the closest bet is Gio; to an extent, I wouldn't mind Backlund.
I think you could also try a rotating captaincy.

I'd go with Cammy. We should pick the guy that will be happy to have it for a few seasons before the next captain(most likely via draft) is ready to take the reigns. I think Giordano would have it for a much longer period than Cammalerri, and from the sounds of things Cammy has been great with the young guys and if we're gonna get another top 6 guy from this draft he'll be the best guy to work with him and should receive the honour.

Although Gio has had a rough season, I would have to go with him.
Surprised no one has mentioned Stempniak as he has been the most consistent forward all season.
The other choice would be Sarich if he stays.

I would like Stempniak as a stop-gap measure for captain (like Hejduk in Colorado) until one of the young guys emerges as the leader of this team for a longer term. I wouldn't be disappointed with Cammy or Gio either.

I say just give it to Brodie or Backlund next season. One of those two will likely be the captain in the long run, why not give it to them right away?

I might be OK with the rotating A's hitting Backlund and Brodie occasionally next season, but I'd also be OK with just meeting them grow without any extra pressure. Those two are part of the future and will have the letters in time.

I'd wait it out a bit but I think Backlund is showing real signs. He's been outstanding lately and he no longer resembles the frightened kid he was a couple years ago. He's ready to be a big part this team.

Cammalleri is a UFA next season, and should (hopefully) be dealt at the deadline for something when we're out of the race next season. Therefore I wouldn't even consider him for the captaincy. Unless they're crazy enough to offer him a long term deal, which I hope they aren't when he'll be 31 by the start of this upcoming season.
I'm in the wait a year camp, because all the main candidates for the captaincy could be dangled in potential trades next year. I don't really envision Glencross or Giordano being traded, but they do have the high potential for solid returns compared to our other veterans. So really anything is possible when you're a non-playoff team.

I say don't worry about it until after training camp. Then have the players who make the club vote on who they feel should be the captain, after all they know who they will follow.
But I am about 90% sure it will be Giordano.

The face of the franchise? Then definitely no to Giordano, Glencross or Cammi. I think this title has to be earned. Wideman or Sarich would be my idea for temporary captain until a new franchise player steps up - shows he leads on and off the ice.

Cammalleri seems competitive, well-spoken but critical of his team-mates when there's a need and he has some charisma to him. I would not be opposed to making him the captain, if a decent contract can be negotiated. He seems like the most natural choice. Giordano has the competitivess, but he has never struck me as a leader type.
The last thing I want however is for our captain next season to be the ghost of Iginla, as that is the opposite of moving on. Heck, I don't like it that he's still our captain this season, too much mystification for my taste. It is what it is, the team needs to move one. We should name a new captain, just like every other team does.

By my count last night we only had two Alternate Captains playing. Gio & Cammy. Obviously Glenny is the third one usually, but how could we not put a third A on someone playing?

Surprised Backlund's name is being dropped. He's just a kid who has a lot of establishment to do at this level first. What makes him the next captain?
I'm not even sure I'm comfortable with Gio yet. He has a bad season and needs to worry about fixing his own game still before he can take the team on his shoulders.
IMO we're in transition and whoever it is isn't going to be captain for more than 2-3 years. Player should also have experience. Should be Cammo hands down.

the Backlund talk is ridiculous I agree. But people are getting over excited that he tried standing up for a teammate.
