What would the premium be to kepp McGratton for a couple of seasons? I would pay it and bring him back. The younger players can play with a lot more confidence when they have a guy like McGratton on their side.

I'd like to see a Poll.

I'd like to see McG back, but i'm curious if others are not expressing their opinions.

I would love to keep Magratten. I would try to dump Begin and Jackman and fine young guys to fill the other two fourth line spots. Bouma is one of them if he can come back from his injury. A guy like Hanowski might round out that line.

And since dollars dont matter too much for the next 2 years I dont really care if we overpay a bit. 1 million 1 year would be fine by me.

McGrattan is a real favourite of mine. Great character guy. Needs to stay a Flame going forward.

Personal life

McGrattan struggled with alcohol abuse early in his career, voluntarily entering the NHL's substance abuse treatment program in December 2008.[16] He worked through the program, and by the time of his second tenure with the Flames in 2013, had been sober for over four years and become a mentor and friend to former Nashville teammate Jordin Tootoo in his own efforts to overcome similar addictions.[17] McGrattan's experiences led to a desire to help others; he partnered with the NHL substance abuse program to act as a mentor for others who wanted the advice of a fellow player,[16] and plans to spend his off-seasons earning a university degree in addiction counselling.
Taken from his wiki page. How can you not cheer for this guy? I'd really like to see him back next year and we saw the other night that he's not entirely without skill. Not saying he's a top six obviously but he understands his role here very well and is not a liability out there.

McGrattan does both, and is probably one of the most feared in the league to boot!

Wasn't Oliwa charged with domestic abuse post retirement? If true, a piece of garbage that deserves no praise.

Yes, sign McGrattan and trade Jackman (if he's worth anything). Jackman's got the hands of stone, worst than if Medusa had looked at him. Begin is OK, but the Flames really don't need more guys sitting out on the 5th and invisible line. Flames need grit, size, skill, and centermen on every line.

There are a lot of temptations out there for young men with too much money. Since the Flames are going with youth, I think it would be wise to have a guy like McGrattan around to help guide them in the right direction.

I would keep both Begin and McGrattan on a 1 year deal. Even if they are only the 13th and 14th forwards, their presence as people on the team will have nothing but a positive impact.

McGrattin should get resigned for saluting the crowd upon return. Hard work ethic and really has a knack for getting a goal here and there.

As ok has Jackman has played since the trade deadline, his first half was poor, and IMO, guys like Jackman are a dime a dozen to find. I know he has another year, I just hope him having that contract does not push McGrattan out.

Guys like Bouma, Aliu and I guess Jackman can play a much more effective agitator role if they don't have to be the designated fighter.
hahah totally noticed that too.

Hell, id give Grats a 1 year 950 000 contract. show him he is valued by the organization but we cant commit to anything long term. Love the guy, love his heart, a true heavy weight that can play the game and seems to wear the flaming C with a helluva lot of pride.

I don't see how we don't resign the guy. Begin would be a much more interesting debate with Bouma being the direct competition.

Really hoping he gets resigned. He does a perfect job in his role on this team, also he seems like a good guy to have around a bunch of young players. I remember watching him up close in warm ups during his first stint with the Flames. I was stunned at his size and appearance, the guy is an absolute brute.

They need to give him a contract that pays him $1 every time someone spells his name wrong on CP...Although, that could make him the highest-paid player in the league.

Would be odd for this to not happen given how he's being referenced lately by coaches/players, but hey who knows.
