Yeah, that is the beauty of Porsche. In a world of finicky super cars, Porsches can be driven hard and put away wet when you are talking about their naturally aspirated cars (save the Carrera GT). And they are cheap to service in relative terms to the Italian and British stuff. No more than a BMW or Benz. Germans do not baby their Porsches, and they aren't really considered super special in Europe like they are here. They drive them like psychopaths over there.
Just took a look at the 99 Boxster....on the screen at least, looks like it's in fantastic shape! Cheap enough too that you don't have to worry about it to much if it gets the odd ding. I was never a huge fan of the late 90s egg-shaped headlamps, but I'm starting to come around.
Interior dash still feels like it was designed by someone from Pontiac though.

Actually I might as well put this out there in this thread, I just purchased an 82 trans am that is a piece of crap right now. I am going to turn it gradually into a Knight Replica because I am a loser like that and I was obssessed with owning KITT as a child. Maybe I will start a thread to update the progress as I go.

You should be banned if you don't start a thread.

Man, I wanted a Fiero so bad when I was a kid. Still kind of do.
I was looking at this one last week. I am the same with that car. Just one of those cars I NEED to own one day. This was the thought process of a 13 year old Pylon back then. "It looks like a Ferrari, therefore it MUST be as good as one. Like really, chicks will think I drive a Ferrari."
I will. It will be a slow work in progress, have to order the parts for it from Michigan after I get her all stripped down. I think when it gets done and I have sunk a stupid amount of money into it my gf will kill me but oh well. I bet it will be a bugger to steer too, I am used to having my hands at 10 and 2.

Haha, that's pretty much exactly it, Pylon...the "Ferrari" look that no kid can get over. That last gen-especially.
Put a Ferrari badge on the hood and I feel like you could fool more than a few girls. Clearly lots of people had the same idea, because that's probably the #1 car people used for their crappy kit-kar conversions.
Awww sheeet.

Before you mention it a 3rd time, you know there's now a mod that solves that, right?
It's a mod that can easily cost a couple grand to implement, and it doesn't necessarily "solve" the problem, as the only way to 100% rectify it is to eliminate the IMS from the engine design (which Porsche eventually did). But yeah, it's not a bad thing to get.
And yeah, you might not like hearing about it, but I figured the guy should at least know there's a small chance that he might need to replace the engine at some point. I mean there's a reason the M96-engine generation of Porsche's is a lot cheaper than others, and part of that is the RMS/IMS threat. Something like 5% have had this issue.. that's 1 out of 20 cars.
They are still fantastic cars, and I would say they will be much more reliable than any other german car of that vintage, but it's something to keep in mind. It didn't stop me from buying one, but at least I knew the risks.
