I'm curious as to why Feaster fat jokes are out of bounds on CP but it's open season on Rita MacNeil a day after she dies??

Did you report the posts or choose instead to complain about it?

If I ordered the Rita McBurger at the Canadian Brewhouse today, I wonder if the little Canadian flag would be at half-mast.

I did neither. It was an honest question. Did it come across as a complaint? Why not just answer it, or are we feeling a little defensive tonight?

Kind of don't. Never understood the appeal, and especially his obsession with Rita McNeil fat jokes of all things.

I'd take someone who makes the occasional inappropriate joke over someone who is an insufferable ass all the time any day.

Because Feaster is likely to be an (anonymous) member on here and she isn't.

Got to love the Halifax Chronicle Herald's editorial cartoon today. Raylene Rankin, Stompin' Tom and Jay Smith (guitarist for Matt Mays). It's been a difficult few weeks for East Coast music.

Just that there seems to be a growing sense that we see every post the moment it is posted. We want people to help us out - if they find something offensive please report it. Be a part of helping moderate this site.

While Cowperson and Silver took some flack for poking fun at Rita's weight, they weren't the only ones.

In a hand written letter from Rita herself:

She had a good sense of humor about her weight (as a person with a weight problem myself I understand having good humor about it; mind you I do think it's easier to be abnormally underweight than overweight).

A friend of mine posted a story to Facebook that after Rita sang the national anthem during the Jays/Phillies World Series a Philadelphia sports writer wrote that they should have brought her out on a forklift. Rita's response was "if I'm ever asked to sing the national anthem at a Blue Jays game again, I want to be brought out on a forklift, just because".

So I guess my point is, you can forgive the weight jokes, if they're funny Rita would have appreciated them.

I heard that teapot story on the news last night and I had a good chuckle.

It's a rare Maritimer that hasn't got a good sense of humour, so I'm not surprised Rita could make a joke about herself.

I appreciate that you posted this. I had thought it was common knowledge she had fun with her weight. I didn't want to fly in here and start a debate defending my joke right away because that would have derailed the thread and I was caught off guard at the offense taken to the remark. Now that a little time has passed - and because you posted this - I thought I'd better come back in and just let everybody know that my comment wasn't meant to be as malicious as it was interpreted.

There will definitely be a shortage of songs about trapped miners this year.

All in good fun, nowhere near my thing but an artistic person and a great Canadian.

I love when a Canadian makes a name for him/herself on the international stage or otherwise makes it big - especially when they become stars in the Excited States. Yes, that even includes Justin Bieber. Lots have made it big as actors. R.I.P., Rita, you were a great Canadian who was taken too soon.
