McGuire did not mean legendary in a good way, more in a 'that's a huge risk' sort of way.
But I think Feaster did what he was supposed to do regardless of whether Jankowski turns out or not. He listened to his scouts and attained the maximum amount of assets based on what his scouts were telling him.

You just know if it was Detroit or New Jersey making that pick, everyone would be singing praises.
Unfortunately for Jankowski, it was the Flames.

Yeah, I really don't care if creepy Pete likes the pick one way or the other. Just funny the total 180 he's done on it (apparently).

Would take Barkov over Mackinnon?
Please don't become the Flames GM.

He also loved when the Rangers picked Hugh Jessiman.
What does "overvaulting" mean?

A lot of people on this board think Gaudreau can fetch us a 1st round pick.

I know he called it a legendary pick (at the time), but I wasn't about to get into some sort of weird argument over it, then it would have gotten awkward. He was fun to talk to, you can tell he's also a pretty big fan of the game. We also chatted about how the flames haven't had a centre since Nieuwendyk so that's where his 'acquire a centre' probably came from because everybody knows that's what needs to happen.
Haha, he was sitting down at a booth with another guy who worked with the NHL and I was standing, but we remained a good distance from each other. And he tossed a few beers over his head before I walked up I'm pretty sure.
I didn't talk about the overvaulting thing, as I didn't really want to intrude on his down time/lunch but it probably means he thinks ownership/management believes we have better prospects than we actually do.
I just wanted to keep it light, you know? Didn't want to get all defensive on him.

Well in a couple or years, we'll be able to say that Jankowski has "big body presence" or another one of his infamous lines....
It's waay too hard to say how Jankowski will do and at this point Pierre's oppinion is worth a big tall glass of SFA.

You let him off the hook too easily.
You should have asked him exactly when us Flames fans should be jealous of the something special Oilers... hahhahaha
My brother asked him that on the plane from here to Chicago during the playoff series. he wasn't too impressed. hahahahaha

Who? Who actually thinks that?
Someone might have suggested using him with another first round pick to move up in the Draft. I suggested including him in an Iginla deal to Boston to try to improve the return. I've not seen anyone overvalue JG by that much.

Gaudreau is getting a lot of recognition these days as a prospect. He's in a lot of top 50 lists now, he was runner-up for the Hobey Baker at 19 years old.
I don't know why we'd trade him, but I'd want far more than a late first round pick.

I can go ahead and one up McGuire... watch:
If I became Flames GM, I wouldn't just acquire a centre, I would acquire two. Scratch that, I would trade for Crosby AND Malkin. That should set the Flames up nicely.
If I became Flames GM I wouldn't have traded down last draft, I would have traded up. I'm talking way up. Think first over all up. That's how awesome of a GM I would be.
This upcoming draft rather than picking Barkov or McKinnon, I would pick Barkov, McKinnon, Drouin AND Jones. Why pick one when you can pick all 4?
hmmm.... what else? Oh I would have never hired Hartley to coach this team. I would have gotten the best coach of all time, Scotty Bowman to come back to coach my monster team.
Anyways, back in reality, Pierre is a frickin' donkey.

I wasn't there to start some silly argument, I just wanted to say hey and shake his hand. I wasn't even going in with the implications that we were going to talk about all this but it just happened.

Since when hasn't Pierre been jacked about every single player he chooses to talk about on air?

All this Jankowski talk reminds me of how excited I am to see what he brings to camp next year.

Silly argument for a silly and stupid comment.

Did he give any details as to why he hated (or hates now) the pick?

I believe in the Pony Power

I don't think Maguire's stance on the pick has changed. When the Flames didn't take TT and instead dropped down - he absolutely blasted them over it on-air. When they then picked Jankowski he liked the selection.
So I think he likes the Flames taking Jankowski, but not the overall strategy that saw them pass on TT to drop down and take him.
