I posted this in the PGT but thought it might be better here but I'm not sure if you noticed, but one of the PP units had Baertschi, Backlund, Horak, Brodie and Gio. That looks like our future there.

Umm... ya it's impossible for a team to SELL ALL THEIR PLAYERS. And rebuilding IS a choice that teams can make. Not every team rebuilds when it's absolutely necessary. Some teams have the "intectual honesty" to know that the team as it is has no chance of winning the Cup. They then "rebuild" or "retool" (whatever definition you want to use). Take the Flyers, they traded Richards and Carter. They chose to do it. The decision wasn't forced upon them.

Fact is that the Flames should have started the rebuilding or retooling process years ago. They should not have traded 2nd round picks in an attempt to improve the club for the present. They should have moved pending UFAs for whatever they could have gotten. And how is it complete stupidity to "sell off" stars one year removed from the playoffs when the team lost in the first round the previous four years and was a bubble team for most of it? That's being smart, not complete stupidity.

No team chooses to rebuild, it's not the nature of professional sports. No truly competitive athlete will want to join a franchise that is okay with losing.

And what's hard to understand about that last thing? you were claiming Hartley was only claiming plan b existed to cover for Feaster.

Are you suggesting that Hartley chose to come to Calgary knowing that he will have one year to make the playoffs before the rebuild happens?

In the year 3013, the Flames are once again competitive. It was a tought road to get there.

Ya no question he's a good guy, I've supported him since he's been here. Upbeat guy, good hockey sense, and coaches an entertaining brand of hockey. I'm sick of blaming coaches for the lackadaisical, underperforming group we've had playing here the past 6-7 years. I hope he's back next year.

Who didn't know? Anyone with half a brain knew if the Flames didn't make the playoffs this year would have to do something with Iginla hitting free agency and Kiprusoff potentially going to retire.

It wasn't rocket science.

I was at a lunch last summer Hartley spoke at, and was ready to go through a wall for him.
