He's going to lead us to another 9th spot, just wait.

Isn't the max points we can get now only like 50? That's pretty sad. Only like.. 80 points in a regular season? less? more? Not sure. Either way, worst we've had for a while.

I thought the way it was poorly handled by the coach. The guy goes from hero to zero in the span of about 14 days without much explanation. Add in that they never replaced the center - i think That blew the coach's credibility in the room, instead of the intended message of accountability

The rumour was that Jones argued with Hartley. Pretty sure Millions tweeted talking about how he was talking to the coaches on ice and left to the locker room.

Isn't this actually the 4th call-up (Carson, Reinhart, Baertschi and Jones) unless I have my timeline wrong and one of those was prior to the deadline.

In any case I believe that the Flames have 4 call-ups until the last Heat game (April 20th) according to the post I read in another thread.

Back on topic...I am interested to see if Jones can regain the energy and compete that he had last season. I thought he was a good 4th line pick up back then.

Jones & Baertschi are both emergency callups so they do not count against the 4. Carson and Reinhart do though I believe.

He was crap, hopefully he is better this time

If you are a 4th line player, and you can't score goals, then you better at least have some big hits or fight. Not one fight since he came to Calgary, not one big hit, and only one goal. Not a surprise that 29 teams passed.

If you have a dive/goal ratio of >1, I want you off the Flames as soon as possible. Hopefully he is bought out in the summer

I don't disagree with Jones' performance, but you don't really have to fight or hit to be a good 4th liner. Stephane Yelle was one of the best 4th liners this team has ever had.

Yelle wasn't a 4th liner except in fantasy pools.

Yelle was an established NHLer with 2 cups when he came to the Flames (as a 3rd line guy), Jones is still trying to break into the league. Big difference there.

I'm pretty sure Yelle was always our third line centre.

Really? I like Jones but I think that's a bit of exaggeration.

Edit: I just realized by "down here" you meant Abbotsford.

I know you mentioned the team's claim about operating on meritocracy in another recent thread too regarding Jones. I just don't see Jones' lack of a call up before this going against the team operating on meritocracy. He may have done everything he needed to do down in Abby, but I also think it's fair that whatever caused the friction with the Flames coaches be counted in the balance of his merits as well.

I don't think you really have enough information to jump to those conclusions. Just because we never heard what went on, it doesn't mean it wasn't handled well within the team internally. Also, without knowing just what happened we're not really in a position as outsiders to judge whether it would have been better to keep him on the team at that time just because he plays a position we're lacking.

We don't which is why it could go both ways. Jones could have deserved the demotion or Hartley may have simply tried to make an example of him that hurt the team in the process by having to use wingers as centers that started the downturn to where we are today. Either way unfortunate for the team.

Quick question, jones is signed for one more year at the league min, but do you guys see blair jones as a guy who occupies a roster spot that could be better used on someone like reinhardt? or a 26 year old bottom 6 piece that could be part of a turnaround next year and beyond?

just want to gauge the temperature on this guys future, considering the future is about all we've got right now.

I do not understand the love for Jones. I wouldn't want him on this team going forward.

If the team is fine with finishing bottom 5 next year then sure go with Reinhart on the 3rd line but I think with the lack of center depth on this team you could have both Jones and Reinhart on the team.

Reinhart hasn't really shown that he is good enough to make it on the team full time next year so if he is you have to be ready for a lot of mistakes and/or have someone ready to fill in whether for games or rest of season if he falters too much. As we saw this year having center depth isn't a bad thing and keeping a cheap, non-liability center around isn't a bad thing.
