Bringing an old thread back to life but I thought I would see if there are any other cigar fans in cp land? I just ordered a box of La Aurora perferidos Maduro Sun Growns and I can't wait for them to get into my humidor.

Any good cigar recommendations from other cpers?

I'm partial to these:

I usually go to Cuba during the winter months and pick up a couple boxes. They're quite pricy here but they're my favourite.

I had a montecristo on the weekend while golfing. Can't go wrong with a good Cuban. Nice smooth taste. I buy most of my cigars online to save a few bucks so getting my hands on a good Cuban is a bit tricky. Anytime I land one I enjoy it.

Where are people buying from online that the shipping isn't ridiculous?

you could contact these fine folks:

I buy mine from here http://www.cigarauctioneer.com It is American but we go down 2- 3 times per year so I just get them shipped to the nearest UPS Store and pick them up there.

Have you checked the place in the Ramada on 8th ave? Shefield and Sons, I think? No idea what his prices are like.

I've ordered many times from CigarPlace. I think shipping is around $16 US. Still much cheaper than buying here. I'm out of the loop with where else to order from, but there's a huge, long thread here filled with good info. I highly recommend taking the time to read at least the last few months of it to get a feel for where guys are getting their sticks from these days.

A nice bump from a year ago.

I was recently gifted with a new humidor, a larger, 50 cigar case, but I've been having trouble keeping the humidity up.

What do you folks use to keep up the humidity in this dry climate?

Boveda 72% humidity control pack and a Tupperware container. They're about $10 and can get them at most smoke shops. will last over a year.

If you're just getting into cigars and like them but don't really know what you like, you really cannot go wrong with Montecristo #4. They're the most all-access, good quality cigar I've ever found.

As someone who has never smoked, is there an etiquette for receiving cigars? I find myself with a few from people who visit Cuba or have babies. In the past, I put them on a shelf for six months and then throw them out. It seems wasteful, but I would have to look up a YouTube video on how to smoke one and figure that I made it this far in life without trying so why start now.

If you don't get it into a humidor in the first few days it'll dry out. You can still rehabilitate it later, but I'd at least re-gift it to someone who'll smoke it.

I didn't smoke a cigar (or anything else) until I was 25. Now smoke maybe a half dozen a year. It's not like you have to be unhealthy about it to enjoy one once in a while.

I have a small humidor with about 30-40 cigars, and probably only smoke one a year. Some of the cigars in there are over 5 years old and are in great condition. A couple times a year some friends have poker games and I'll bring a handful to pass out, or for a wedding party or what have you. I get them from Cuba so they're cheap to buy and can keep for a long time.

I use the Cigar Oasis Ultra, although last year the electric ribbon broke, and now I'm using humidity beads, and they work fine. One day I'll try to fix my Cigar Oasis.

Once a month I open the lid, make sure no mold is developing, and check and sometimes replenish the beads. With the Cigar Oasis you could go longer.

Make sure you use distilled water.
