Wideman's performance in the defensive zone as a whole is pathetic. Last night wasn't an exception.

Not sure if that was meant as sarcasm but Babchuk at least deserves a chance. The way this team has jerked him around is shameful.

We got to see a glimpse of what happens when Wideman plays on the top pairing, rather then sheltered on 2nd pairing minutes. Quite frankly, he's not a top pairing dman. Just doesn't read the play like one.

Heat defense on Friday:

MacKenzie (R) - Callahan
Matczak (R) - Seigo (R)
Lamb (R) - McKelvie
Kulak (R)

Five rookies on the blueline. Yeah, we're hurting.

Playing Babchuk gives Calgary their best chance at finishing bottom 2.

I hope he plays over 20 minutes tonight, paired with Butler.

even playing sheltered mins, wideman seems pretty lost in the dzone. Doesn't appear to have the inclination on when to pressure the puck and when to back off.

his value is the fact that he is the only flames dman who knows what to do with the puck in the offensive zone to generate chances. Our other guys don't know how to get the shot thru, and typically their best play is to put the puck in the corners for the forwards to chase/cycle.

Has Kulak played yet? How has he looked?

Maybe Ramage shows up before Friday.

Wow I don't recognize any of those names except Lamb (wasn't he one of the NCAA signings?)

When did we get these guys?

Indeed. Can't remember which of the EIGHT goals against it was last night in particular (5th or 6th I think) but his give-a-crap meter was non-existent. Didn't even try to stop whoever it was from scoring. Literally gave up and WATCHED the guy pick up the puck and net it. Pathetic. Sorry, off topic rant.

I guess Gio's wife expecting might help to explain where his head's been at this season. Good to know there may be an excuse because I was starting to worry that he had forgotten who he was out there. Hopefully everything goes well and he can re-focus.

I see you weren't being sarcastic. I hope he eventually gets a chance to play somewhere and comes back to bite us in the ass.

I'm still speculating that Ramage isn't going to sign till his school year is done so he can finish his degree. The way Feaster was talking about him yesterday sounded like they weren't going to be signing him in the short term, but more likely get it done later this spring.

So Cundari isn't cleared to play yet?

they have AHL deals only. Lamb is the only one of those with an NHL contract.

Nope. Just asked the trainer. It's iffy if he'll play this weekend.

I always liked Carson. I thought he could have been a good bottom pairing guy with the potential to surprise us but with his contract it seemed that we never wanted to risk him on re-entry waivers.

I hope he makes the most of this opportunity.

I'm glad Carson is getting a chance at last. He should've always been ahead of Babchuk on the D depth chart.

Too bad Breen and Cundari are both injured. But sounds like Cundari's not too far away.

I think they've gotta get Ramage inked up and called up asap, though. I have a realllly bad feeling about keeping Babchuk in the lineup way longer than he needs to be.

Babchuk could play 30 minutes a night or three. It makes no difference to the end result.
