Maybe not THAT bad, but certainly all of those picks have top 5 potential, I'd say.

Target them in trades instead.

The only RFAs I see the team pursuing are Butler, Backlund, and Brodie.

That's what will happen for sure in a summer where the cap diminishes. Teams are going to get squeezed and they'll be squirting some quality RFA's all over the teams with cap space.

Wait, that might not have been a good visual.

That's what I was thinking. It could be a buyers market for young RFAs. It doesn't hurt making the threat of an offersheet though (and Feaster may be believable now).

Offer sheet them all. Bankrupt all teams in league as they are forced to match. Fire Feaster. Win Stanley Cup.

In all seriousness though, Pietrangelo is worth making an offer on. Awesome player. If we stock up on 2013 draft picks I don't mind if we lose some in 2014.

Offersheets are best done by teams high in the standings, as they are essentially a way to trade picks for cap value. This is the precise opposite of what the Flames should be doing at this point time.

If Feaster starts going big on RFAs, I hereby declare that, Georgetown law degree or not, I would be a more competent GM than he is.

no, the new CBA did not change the opening date of free agency

Group 3 unrestricted free agency remains unchanged and begins on July 1 each year.

Just another example of the NHL changing the game to cater to Americans.
