Do it - you won't regret it. The petition is a pain though with a fair amount of leg work involved. You need 2/3rds of the residents on the lane on board. We just had enough and then had to wait for a counter petition to run it's course!

I think the total for our 50' lot was ~$3400. It was a quick turn around for the actual excavation for storm sewers and paving.

3 years ago our neighborhood did the petition, original quote was about $30/mnth, it was a go, then the city came back with a new estimate of about $60/mnth each person. Idiot neighbors then signed a petetion to cancel it. Now we're dealing with a swamp out there.

Do you just get the names singed on a piece of paper or are there forms to get? I'm thinking of trying again as some neighbors passed away/moved.

My neighbour is currently dealing with some flooding in his garage due to a build-up of ice and some poor grading. Apparently the city has been called and will be sending out a crew to fix the drainage once the ice has melted.

Having a paved alley sure would be nice though. A neighbour down the road mentioned it a few years ago but nothing ever came of it. Our alley is fairly sloped, and we use it exclusively to park and barely ever use the front. Perfect place for a little asphalt. I'd pay a little extra for the luxury of not having mud and gravel coating the floor of my garage every winter.

Bump for round 2 this year.

Rear alley is so muddy its like going off roading, almost got the car stuck this afternoon. There is litteraly no gravel left, not sure where it's gone but this blows.

Anyone else have success getting the petition signed?

Spoke to the city and we don’t quality for alley paving till fall 2017 as the city won’t touch any lane constructed within the last 6 years. They’re worried about settlement of the gravel lane due to utility excavation. Where the 6 year requirement came from is anyone’s best guess. I would think with the amount of water sitting in the alley that it’ll completely settle after 1 or 2 years max.

Should be interesting if I can stickhandle this through sooner than that.

The one good thing about my alley, is if one day I come home and discover that the Germans have set up an MG42 in a fixed position at one end of the alley, I'll be able to commence an assault using the dips and potholes as defilade.

Almost got the suv stuck last night (again)..... its like going off roading haha. Center section of the alley is like quicksand. I have no idea where the gravel went but it's all gone.

Still waiting to hear back from 311.

The city gave my neighborhood a price and I think it worked out to $10K a house.

When people are saying so much per month, how long is that? Forever or just a couple of years?

So that means you have only been in your house about 2-3 years; right? I know our alley used to look like that, and we had all been talking about getting it paved, why we had to wait, etc. Then each year a bunch of us would call 311 and they would put down more gravel. My alley is now 10 years old, and I'd say for the last 3-4 years it has been fine in the spring thaw.

I don't know that I'd want to pay to have it paved now. In winter it's nice to be able to put gravel down in front of my garage, and not have to worry about cleaning it up in the spring. Right now it just becomes part of the alley.

Maybe not 'stuck', more just spinning the ####ty winter tires shooting mud after stopping.

Apparently the pictures don't capture the extend of the mud very well, LOL. I'll try to snap a better picture of it.
