I'd like the Flames to build around Jones or Mackinnon.
If Colorado or Florida choose first they'll take Jones. The Avs may take Drouin 2nd because they have Duchene, ror, and Stastny up the middle.

If we could snag a center a wing and a d man oh wow.

Strong draft could set us up very nicely.

Mackinnon or drouin
Monohan it Lindholm
Pulock

happy tears.

How many of these guys look to be NHL ready for next season?

People are rating Mackinnon and barkov higher purely because they're centers, which we've lacked for a long time. Drouin is hands down the better player I think.

I agree. I am very hard on Feaster, but i don't think even he could screw up the top 4.

If he did screw it up, i have no doubt my mind would snap. I would spend the next 10 years wearing a straight jacket, drooling, and muttering the words " Feaster, why?"

Is it realistic to think that if we had a 4th pick and a 30th pick that we could package them to move up to 2 to get Mackinnon? I have no idea if that has ever happened before or if any team would consider that move.

If that is the case, I would rather draft Barkov and still have a 1st to draft BPA.

Whatever player we get at 4th overall isn't worth packaging our 30th-ish for mckinnon. All four are great players.

I'd rather not do that, because at #4 we would still be getting a really good young player, even if it wasn't Mackinnon, plus we'd be getting another young asset later in the first round.

Flames need to accumulate as many young assets as they can.

If you throw enough mud against the wall, some if it is going to stick.

I think the Flames have to target Mackinnon or Barkov if they end up with a top 3 pick. This is our big chance to get that elusive #1 center, and regardless of which is the best player at the time (Drouin or Jones), the Flames just have to fill that void.

Centreman > other positions

However, regardles of who we pick , we should end up with a stud. This is the most excited I've ever been for the draft.

I would love to try and get Kerby Rychel with our late pick. Would be surprised if he fell past 20ish though.

I'm hoping we can trade up the Pens pick and get Bo Horvat somewhere in the mid 1st.

Quote:
Center on the powerhouse London Knights who has seen time on the wing, and is an exceptional face-off man. Exceptionally strong and effective three-zone stud who is a rock of a specimen. Strong on the puck and in the cycle, as well as coming out to the front with the puck for the shot. Good shot and good passer, he projects as an almost certain selection with upside. As a rookie last year he was on the PK team, and stood out as part of Team Ontario at the 2012 U17 WHC’s, with 4 goals and 7 points in 6 games. When the puck is on his stick, you can be sure he either penetrates or quickly dishes to the right man to continue the offensive press. He is an excellent penalty-killer, an aggressive forechecker, and fearless in the dirty areas, whether it be the front or the corners.

Wasn't Drouin originally a center converted to winger to play along MacKinnon's wing?

I think Jones and Drouin will go 1 and 2, respectively, so i think if the flames are 3rd or 4th we'll end up with one of Barkov or Mckinnon. If the flames finish with the 1st or 2nd overall pick? That's a tough choice, Jones and Drouin are both -studs-, but the center gives us a decent building block.

For me, it'd be really hard to see the flames pass on a guy like jones or drouin, even if it meant they got a solid centerman that projected to the first line.

Nathan Mackinnon C (5'11, 179)

Seth Jones D (6'4, 206)

Johnathan Drouin LW (5'11, 176)

Alexsandr Barkov C (6'2, 194)

Sean Monahan C (6'2, 193)

Shea Theodore D (6'0, 170)

Nicolas Petan C (5'9, 166)

I'd be happy with any two of these guys. Petan is on the smallish side, but his stats are too good to ignore. Also worth noting that Monahan has been performing at a higher level (stats-wise) for a longer period of time than the other guys in major junior.

According to what I've read online, Mackinnon is a converted RW, Drouin is a converted C.

Dream scenario I guess would be to snag another first from a playoff bubble team, and have them end up missing.....then win the lotto with that pick, and have ours be top 3 or 4 as well.

1st overall - Seth Jones
3rd/4th overall - MacKinnon/Barkov/Drouin

Plus snag another solid young player in the 26-30 range.

Would be quite the scenario to get the rebuild jump started.

If flames get a mid round pick for Bouw. Trade that pick and 30th pick for top 10 pick. And try and get Monahan as well. He has Toews written all over him

This is Jeffery Smith, an NHL prospect that the Flames have targeted.

“Weis thinks this guy, if he’s not the most talented guy coming out of this draft, he’s going to be one of them,” said Feaster. “High expectations. This is a player that we had targeted.”

Added Smith: “I really want to prove them right. That’s what I’m here to do. I think in 10 years I can be the best player in this draft.”
