Ales Kotalik was one of the best NHL shoot out specialists in NHL history. (I can't find his final stats since he isn't an active NHL player, but he was 22/44 as of 2011)
He played 56 games here, and we used him in 2 shoot outs.
I'm sure Jussi would suffer the same mismanaged fate here.

I don't know if you remember but B.utter admitted to not knowing of Kotalik and Babchucks shot.

Flames should be all over this. Jokinen has played more centre than 2 of the 4 players we have playing it right now and dominates draws. Looks like with the 'Canes' roster he's been shifted out of the plans and could use a change of scenery.

Good points.
And also, Chelsea sucks.

This insight is based on what... how a past coach managed a fringe player? What's saying that Hartley would do the same in this scenario?

Shocked if no one picks him up, he's been pretty clutch on playoffs.

Wonder if a Glencross and Stajan deal could happen for Ruutu and Jokinen.

That would make sense. Stajan as their 3rd line Center and Glencross winging him.
Get 'er done Feaster!

Feaster should try and get him, then deal another winger for picks/prospects IMO.
Would be solid asset management IMO, and would improve a severe weak spot (draws).

This would make zero sense from an asset management strategy and from a contract strategy. The flames definitely do not need another contract on the books for this year or next year and certainly don't need a player that has been struggling for two years now.
He's on waivers for a reason, not because he's playing excellent hockey.

Why would we trade for someone on waivers?

Claim him and move the other two for Ruutu.
Sadly I think TB COL or FLA will grab him. But if he does pass through it's a deal I can see made.

Get'er done Feaster. I can imagine the headlines in the papers already:
Jussi details emerging from McDonalds Canada's reaction to the NHL waiver wire today. A company spokesman said "We always have room for a Jokinen."
I'll take a flyer on the ringette dude as well. More skills, more thrills. At least he'll be better than the last Latvian the Flames had.

He is probably on waivers because Rutherford tried to trade him, and teams were:
1. Trying to get the Canes to take a contract back
2. Trying to get the Canes to take salary back
3. Not giving up anything of value for him

I'm a little surprised he has zero trade value a week before the deadline with only one more year at $3M. He must have really fallen off if the Canes are dumping him for nothing while in the midst of a playoff race.

I'm all for claiming the guy, but aren't we 1 contract away from maxing out? Seems like that could make it a bit of a roadblock in terms of trading if the numbers don't match.

I'd hope it wouldn't get in the way. The Flames should be moving out bodies, not taking any back.

Just based on who is sitting in the press box on any given night, or how Hartley used Iginla or Blair Jones in the shoot out this year. I mean Wideman is just as good as Iginla in the shootout in his career (25% with fewer attempts). Statistically speaking our shootout line up should always include Tanguay (37.3%, 19/51), Hudler (33.3%, 13/39) or Stempniak (31.2%, 10/32).

They should be moving out veteran bodies, but they still might be getting young guys coming back who might already have pro contracts.
Not saying it's not possible trade to with 50 contracts, but definitely something to keep in mind.
