A friend of mine went here and said it was fun for the kids:

EDIT: You should also check out a Diamondbacks game. The ballpark has a bunch of activities and such for kids as well. They would definitely stay entertained.

Been to Phoenix, can't really understand its appeal. Is it simply the weather? Am I missing something?

Phoenix is a hole. Scottsdale is the place where you want to be.

on that Tombstone trip you could also do the Kartsner Caverns. Kids would love that - really cool to see six story stalagmites!

Goldfield west of Apache Junction near the Superstitions is a fun place to kill some time with kids. When my grandparents lived in Mesa we would always head out there to kill a couple hours. Its set up as an old west town. Lots of little shops with an ice cream store and a restaurant saloon. Also have gun fights and mine tours as well. Its worth going out that way just to see the Superstitions.
A Diamondbacks game would be good for kids. Not to many people in the stands during the week this early in the season plus the roof is usually open this time of year. They also have a playground in the upper deck in right field. Tickets are cheap as well. Good affordable way to experience Major League Baseball without breaking the bank or putting up with big crowds.

This is almost as helpful as your travel advice from the Atlanta thread.

Just out of curiosity are you flying Allegiant Air from Great Falls? I just booked our family summer trip - Kalispell to Oakland with them in July and saved close to $800 (from what it would have cost from Calgary) for my family of 4.

My wife booked it, but yeah I think Allegiant Air. Hard deal to pass up, well worth the drive.

Never been to Phoenix.

You should not be bored in the 6th biggest city in the US. Scottsdale is like Beverley Hills. Mesa and Tempe are close to everything.

If your kids are like mine they should be fine. I know they will dig a couple of days just at the pool swimming, and then a day hike, some general exploring, may hit some parks.
I am sure that you kids will just enjoy time with you and your wife.
