The Watchmen had some great songs. Be Good Tanyas as well. Have been a big fan of their stuff.

Fun lists, going through as many that I haven't heard as I can.

Surprised I only saw one The Tea Party here. They are far and away my fave. A lot of people only think about their Transmission album. While an excellent album, they have so much more to offer than that. World music sounds, crazy instruments, a little electronica thrown in for good measure. A lead singer that can hit some great notes. One of the most talented bands I've ever watched too. Creative, technical, just great.

So, I guess mine would be:

The Tea Party
Matt Good/Matt Good Band
Strapping Young Lad/Devin Townsend
Delerium
Rush
The Tragically Hip
The Guess Who/BTO
Moist
Skinny Puppy/Front Line Assenbly
Deadmau5

Surprised I didn't see any SYL or Skinny Puppy up there too.

Got a nice mix in my top 10, could probably throw up another 10 of honorble mentions.

EDIT: Whoops, forgot all about Sarah McLachlan. Definitely up there. Not sure to kick out though, so I'll have a list of 11. Though I guess you could throw Delerium up with FLA and Skinny puppy as the artists came from there, (in most of the incarnations) but the sound is so different...

Wow, there's some ridiculously good Canadian artists. I'm sure most have been already mentioned, but in no particular order:

Jay Malinowski/Bedouin Soundclash
The Watchmen
Luke Doucette & the White Falcon
The Arkells
Sweatshop Union
Conjure One
Metric
The Trews
Blue Rodeo
Tom Cochrane and/or Red Rider
Tea Party
The Band
City & Colour
Matt Good
Matt Mays & El Torpedo
April Wine
Treble Charger
BTO
Marianas Trench
BNL
Moist/ David Usher
Big Sugar
Crash Test Dummies
Sarah McLachalan
Philosopher Kings
Doctor (although that was short lived)
Neverending White Lights
Bryan Adams
The New Pornographers
Sloan
K-os
Elliot Brood
Holly Cole Trio
Limblifter

And for the record, can't stand Rush, the Hip, or Neil Young, although I appreciate what they've done for the Canadian music scene.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think Nickelback are pretty good. Never understood all the hate.

OLP and Avril Lavigne are ok I guess. Neil Young as well.

I've never appreciated Canadian music on it's own merit. I blame the CRTC's policies of jamming Canadian content down my throat my entire life. The result has been "Here is stuff you have to listen to, not stuff that you would listen to for another reason."

Sure, but at the end of the day you hear a song and either like it or don't. And there's lots of amazing canadian music.

That's what I'm saying - I hear Canadian artists and generally don't like them as a result of this programming. Honestly, it colors my opinion of the music and artist even if I don't know they're Canadian at first.

Anyway, I would throw Shad, k-os and Rush in a top-10 list. I'm hard pressed beyond that.
