While not Crosby and Malkin, it's probably one of the better duo's to be locked in. Seems like $8.8M or so is the going rate for these higher end guys, so it looks like he didn't really give them a discount. I never think these longer deals work out towards the end, but we'll see if it's a diminishing cap hit, as that would make more sense down the road.

Perry strikes me as a guy who pushed for $69M just for the lols.

Both deals are expensive and too long, they better keep playing well. 1/4 of next year's salary cap might hinder the team's ability to compete.

They aren't a cap team anyway, so i doubt it will. Don't think they plan on being a cap spending team either.

Which kind of makes it worse, no? Even more % spent on two players.

Both are good players right now. But I see one or both contracts becoming a pain in the arse years down the road.

As a Western Conference fan, I'm glad to see niether took a hometown discount.

I don't mind paying Getzlaf (true #1 center) that kind of money but Perry... I wouldn't have offered him that much.

Way too much. No winger deserves this type of cash in this league.

I imagined him getting at least 8 with a little more in FA.

Crazy that the Ducks have to pay this much for both. Saving almost 2M if they were to get some form of discounts from both would have been helpful.

Now that he's cashed in, he will probably get lazy and most likely decline.

These long term deals are an interesting lesson in potential agency costs. Though a GM is typically a longer term thinker than say a coach, they often do not have to deal with the harsh realities of paying these players this enlarged salary near the end of the deal. In the short term they win, as they can retain the guys who help them win and sell tickets, but long term these contracts could be the thing that sinks a team 7-8 years from now.

Having a competitive team with the marquee players signed for awhile makes the club easier to sell.

As long as that player is preforming to their potential

Gotta think Hiller and Ryan are gonzo after this season. Doubt they move them before the deadline.
