I don't like just giving someone a C for the sake of having a captain. Have 3 A's going, maybe rotate them. Eventually maybe one of those A's steps up and becomes captain material.

How about the most deserving player, according to the coach and players?

There is a clear void in leadership if Iginla is gone. This a clear indication of the state of affairs.

Perhaps MacKinnon in a couple years.
That's what I'd like to see at least lol.
But I really believe that the next guy to inherit the C (and hold it for a length of time) has yet to come into the organization. Current organizational candidates if we're holding off giving out the C for a while would be Sven and Brodie. I'd love to see TJ get it if he continues to grow as a player and be impactful for the team. Sven's work ethic and dedication would look good down the road in a leadership role, but he has to prove to be an effective player at this level first, which I have little doubt he will eventually be.

"Who will score first tomorrow vs Nashville? "
How about the person who shoots the first puck behind the Predators goalie first.

If we do have to look for a new captain, I'd love to see Backlund step up and earn it. If he can stay healthy and continue to improve his offensive game, I think he'd be a nice transitional captain for the likes of Sven, Gaudreau, Gillies, Jankowski, etc. Question is, does he have leadership in him?

Can't say I've seen a whole lot of him, but from what I've seen at the WJCs and in college, if John Ramage is signed and he has a similar impact in the NHL, he looks like he could be future captain material.

My vote goes out to Cammy. He's a capable scorer and seems like a pretty good guy around the locker room. If Gio picks his play up, he wouldn't be too bad a choice, and Tanguay is the next best veteran on the team. Maybe Kipper's the next goalie captain? Seems a bit quiet for that duty. It's an interesting topic though.. sure will be odd to see someone wearing the C that isn't Iginla, whenever that may be.

I think all your picks are terrible. You pick these guys to to replace Jarome Iginla?
Reason being that Cammy is not a leader, he had problems in Montreal and in LA. The guy is a decent hockey player but not Captain material, lets be honest.
Tanguay?? Jesus. No. He is soft as puppy shiat
Then we come to Giordano, and all I see is a terrible defenceman with too many minutes. I don't care what he did or how he played, this season has been a huge bust. Not physical, and give away after give away. He can't even make a breakout pass when his wingers are open.
Glencross is not a leader either, he has a bad attitude and is selfish. He can sure play when he wants to though, but im not giving him the C.
My pick to lead this team would be Jay B. He has never played on a playoff team. He is thriving under Bob Hartley however, and is playing absolutely stand out defence. The guy logs close to 30 minutes a game and is putting up points this year like he can. Class act, and the NHLs current iron man. He has potential to lead a team.
Also, anyone who said Sven, snap out of it. The guy is not captain material, he is not even NHL material yet. Everyone needs to tame their Sven boner. Its not happening right now for him in the NHL, and not for a while, if ever.

With Iginla departing (if he is traded), it will be tough for any person to fill his shoes.
If the team goes in a full rebuild mode, my belief is they should sign a veteran leader for a few years to aid the transition. Some one who can play quality minutes on the 2nd/3rd line or defense pairing.
Out of the current crop of Flames, I would lean towards rolling with three assistants. If we have to choose a captain, maybe put the C on Giordano's sweater if he can pull up his game.
