I'm in favor of anything that makes a mockery of the skills competition, but that was actually a good attempt that was only stopped because Rask made a sick save. Definitely a better attempt than the majority of Flames' shootout attempts in recent years.

they talked about that shootout on the Flames-Kings intermission. I don't usually agree with Iron Mike but this time he was right on. He hated that shootout attempt and said there is no room for it in the NHL. I am just glad he didn't score on it; otherwise other players will start doing the same thing. Also i hate to be Boston Bruins losing in that crappy shootout move.

I remember the outrage when Phil Bourque did that ringette thing on a penalty shot, sometime in the 80's or early 90's.

I don't get it.

If you think it gives you the best chance to score, why not?

I mean, as someone who already thinks the shootout is a joke, I don't really care. Better than shooting it at the goalies logo from 50 feet away at least.

Pretty much. Too many dinosaurs in the crowd.

That move doesn't give you the best chance to score. All the goalie has to do is cover the bottom of the net, you can't raise the puck that way. At all. I hope he got in crap over that. A shot from the blue line would have been more effective

I'd much rather see that than the generic fire the wrist shoot at the goalie's crest. Much more effective..

I feel like you're missing the point. I'm not judging the actual shootout attempts chance at scoring, just saying that Daugavins thought he had a chance to score on it (probably because he has) so I don't see a big deal. Keenan wasn't voicing his displeasure on that shot because Daugavins didn't score, it was because it wasn't "proper" and had no place in the NHL.

And, just covering the bottom of the net is easier said than done. Give Rask some credit for that save, he had to be quick to close up that side of the net.

Weirdest SO attempt I've ever seen. "Daugavins had tried the move before and was successful with it early this season during an American Hockey league game with the Binghamton Senators." http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=400442849
Still, the Bruins win 3-2 in the SO. Chris Kelly gets injured from Chris Neil, Chara has now played 500 games for the Bruins and assisted on a goal from tough guy Shawn Thornton.
