I hope the management aren't too wimpy to trade Iginla. My fear is that they're so scared of being the people who send Jarome away that they'd rather let him walk after the season and let him be the "bad guy".
I hope they don't put Iginla in that situation at all. He should go to a team that gives him a chance of success. Don't make him look selfish by forcing him to be the one who says it out loud.

I'm not sure how this is going to play out. Starting to not really care. Logic would say if he does not sign an extension by the deadline, you ask which teams he is willing to go to. Then trade him.
Reality says who the heck knows what is going to happen. Things are getting into gong show territory.

I wish this team would give the people of Calgary a little more credit. The media and the Flames always make it sound like our entire life revolves around Jarome like we're something pathetic girlfriend who has nothing else going on in her life. I don't know about you guys, I don't live and die by what Jarome Iginla, or any hockey players, does. Yes he's a great guy, and he is a great ambassador for this team, but at the end of the day he's just a hockey player and it's just entertainment. I'll move on just fine and will still support this team just fine.
What's funny, is that the longer he does stay around here, the worse off his legacy will be because more blame will be put on his shoulder. Moving him would be good for everyone involved.

Maybe he is frustrated with hartley's junior style coaching tactics?

The writing is on the wall. I think its as clear as day that Iginla is using this season to evaluate where the team is headed. He has never clearly indicated he would stay, he said he wouldn't want to be part of a rebuild - and that is clearly where this team is headed. The Iginla era is almost over.
The key now is for management to maximize the return for Iginla and accomodate him to a contender. Best move for all parties. I can say with a reasonable degree of certainty that Iginla will walk if he isn't traded. Iginla isn't stupid and he's not going to stick around as captain of the Titanic if he has a chance to sign elsewhere and experience some playoff success.

If this team let's Iginla to leave for nothing, I would put us in the running (if not already) as the biggest joke of a franchise in the NHL.
Edmonton- Sure they suck, at least they have something to look forward to
NY Islanders- They have an internal cap, the Flames are one of the top teams for spending cap money

Agreed!
I wanted to slap Elliotte across the face during that segment...and each monkey agreed with him...you can find clips like that of any player on any team during a 6-2 drubbing...it was silly to read so much into it.

Iginla should just waive his no trade clause if both aren't talking extension. I hope he's not screwing the team over by saying he will wait until July 5 than go sign with another team. CP will probably blow up if he does that.... rofl...

Although it would be bittersweet, just send him to a team where he has another legitimate shot at a Stanley Cup. With his service to this team and the city of Calgary he deserves it.
His reputation, in my eyes, will never be diminished.

No, trade him to the team that offers the most in return

Good for Iggy, I really do hope he goes somewhere else and gets his well deserved cup. As sad as it is to admit, I don't think he's getting it here. I just want to see Iggy's name on that cup, even if it's not with Calgary.

Iginla has a no trade clause, there's no "let" involved. Iginla, if he decides he wants to play elsewhere, I doubt will waive to get traded to some random team, he will wait until he can sign with who he wants to.

That is entirely up to Iginla.
He may not want to move at this time...lots of things to factor in, and its his earned right to do so.

The team should bring up the options rather than wait for Iginla to go to them, because Jarome is probably too proud to approach the team and suggest a move even if it's the correct thing to do. This has the potential of being really humiliating for Jarome if the team does nothing.
But then being seen as a loser year after year in Calgary is already plenty humiliating. It's brilliant: build a bad team and expect the impossible from them. That way everyone on the team gets to feel like a loser and a failure on a whole different level.

I'm sure that's being disussed behind the scenes. He's not going to go to the media first and tell them what he's thinking. We will hear about Iginla being moved when it happens, not before. I think we should all just enjoy the last few games Iggy has as a Flame and appreciate what he has meant to the franchise.

What?
That is the very first i have heard ANYTHING like that in regards to him and the team...have you any evidence? An article/blog/audio clip from anyone?

Two things:
Sundin put the screws to TO because TO in that offseason, floated out rumors he may be hurt, which drove his market value down. He ended up signing in TO for one year.
So when it came down to the club asking for a favour when the Leafs were again out of it later that year, he refused.
Second, and this is an honest question, has Iginla ever previously negotiated a new contract halfway through a season?
A lot of players don't want the distraction of that, and given his situation and his 17 years with the club and him being the top player and the understanding between him and management, there is no fomal rush to have it done for any particular reason during the season, outside of optics.
Francis asked a question, Meehan gave an answer, everything else is reading between the lines as to reasoning why there hasn't been negotiations.

A surprisingly balanced and solid article from Francis.
As for Iginla, it is time. He must be able to see that if he stays and the mediocrity continues, that being here could become a living hell for him.
He has earned the right to decide his own fate, but the answer as to which way to go with that decision seems to have become pretty obvious at this point.
