Hopefully this gets Baertschi on track for the rest of the hockey season.

I really have no idea what to expect from Backlund. Hopefully the adrenaline elevates his game tonight.

Probably for the best, cant let his confidence slide to much if he's not going to be a regular here yet. Great to see Backlund ready to go!

Give him 20 minutes a night for the next month. Then if the Flames become sellers, he should be ready to jump in if anyone is moved out at the deadline.

Backs was needed.
He was driving the play into the offensive zone extremely effectively.
He could be useful against the Kings if he comes back with the same ferocity.

I want so badly to see Sven come back into the player he was up till last fall. When he was playing at the top of his game and was called up from the W he looked right at home scoring those goals. When he starts feeling it again, we'll know it's the right time to bring him back up. I can agree that he needs this, though.

Good and good.

Been wanting Baertschi sent to the minors for awhile now. He's shown flashes but I don't think he's quite ready for full time NHL duty in the top six role that he's meant for. Hope he lights up the A and we see him back soon.

Backlund was looking great before he was hurt. Still not entirely sure what we have in him (besides someone who is injury prone.... ) but glad we're getting a legit C back. Hope he picks up where he left off.

Although very overrated here nice to have a natural center in Backlund back. I thought he looked like his usual okay offensively terrible finisher and wasn't creating all that much in terms of real threats but it did look fancy/cool.

Hopefully Baertschi gets some confidence back and if nothing else a ton of minutes/PP time. Not overly enthusiastic that he is going back to Ward but it isn't like the coaching staff here is doing much with him anyways.

Wish we could see more of Backlund - Baertschi

Maybe once Sven gets his confidence going again, he'll be called up due to injuries and given another chance

Willingness to send their top prospect down for development reasons is the difference between the Flames and the Oilers.

It's the right move. Hopefully he and Horak can reignite their chemistry on the Heat, and have them both bring that to the Flames next season.

i think baertchi would have grown from playing an unconditional 14 mins/game with PP time in the bigs... argh, at least going down he gets some much needed playing time. What a waste the past few months have been for the kid's development. anyways, good to see them righting the ship.

excited to see backlund play. i bet he's centering the 4th line. Before getting injured he was getting close to 4th line minutes. i wonder if hartley plays him more now.

I don't think it's been a waste, it's shown him where he is at in his development and how much he still has to work to become a star in this league. He knows what i expected from him, and that no one is going to just give him an NHL career, he's going to have to earn it. His time up here was very beneficial, but I think this was the right time to send him down.

fair enough. Sure the practices and game days with the big boys was a beneficial experience for him, as well asrealizing how much more is needed to be a impact player at this level.

I doubt it. Hartley seems to generally favor a 4th of grinders/energy guys, Backlund does not fit that bill. Comeau back to the fourth, one of Jackman/Begin/McGrattan sits. Book it.

I didn't like Hartley's approach to Baertschi. You don't need to coddle the kid, but he was put under an unfair microscope. He was demoted, had his ice-time reduced or benched any time he even looked like he may have made a bad play. Meanwhile Comeau and Glencross have clearly bet one another to see who can get away with the more boneheaded terrible moves before Hartley does the same to them.

Throw in Hartley benching Cervenka because Begin took a high stick in the Phoenix game and Brodie being a healthy scratch for any reason and I'd want the team to stay clear of Hartley once/if they do enter a true rebuild.

That said, I like his up-tempo system.

Brodie has played 21 games this season. More than Butler, Smith, Sarich and Babchuk. He's missed one game. I think it's safe to say he's a regular contributor at this point.

Good move, I think Baertschi will get some valuable minutes down with the Heat... and truth be told I don't think this is the last of him we'll see this season.

I am sure a trade or injury will have him back at some point and hopefully he can build off his top line time with the Heat and start to rip it up in the bigs.

Cervenka wasn't doing much of anything for the few weeks prior to his benching, and has looked excellent since then, so I think that's proven to have been the right move. Hopefully a brief stint in the AHL similarly energizes/motivates Baertschi.

Either way, it's good to have Backlund back.

So because he has only 10 nhl games played this season, does that mean this year slides and doesn't count as a year burned on his elc?

I actually don't mind the move considering he wasn't being played in the third period/ benched, even after being the best Flames forward (other then Iggy) in the Vancouver game.

I like how Hartley benches Baertschi and then wonders why the team couldn't finish on any chances against Anaheim. Well the more you play Jackman, Begin, McGrattan, Comeau the less likely your team is going to score... I see Jackman sitting tonight... hoepfully.
