I would appreciate it if Butler was not on the Flames next year. For an NHL defenseman the guy can't clear the zone when he gets the puck. He is terrible with the puck and game in and game out the guy fails to clear the zone causing unnecessary opportunities and minutes wasted in our end.

Have you seen Regehr play lately?

I'd much rather have Butler.

No Butler in this team makes this team helluva better. I couldn't believe someone made an appreciation thread for him.

I love average players! Butler isn't great but he isn't bad. He's not making lots of money so we can't blame him for not living up to his contract. He's just a warm body that fills a position.

If we wanted to be successful, we would probably have a rookie or someone on an ELC there who could earn a spot but we don't have anyone like that so Butler fills the role perfectly.

He doesn't usually cost us games but he doesn't really win us any either. But someone here probably got a Butler Jersey and want to rally some fans behind good ole Chris Butler and started an appreciation thread.

In my list of 'threads I never thought I'd see on CP,' this has to be the top.

He kind of deserves is as he's been somewhat of a whipping boy despite playing at a very good level considering his salary. He has miscues but even the best make mistakes. He's a solid 5th defender that can play top 4 minutes if required which is all you can ask for especially when you look at teams like Edmonton where he would be top 4 easily. He's a better player today than Regehr is so fans that dislike him because of the guy that was traded for him should now give that up.

I agree. I've always liked his skating, and his (potential) skill game. Not a physical presence at all, but probably slightly better than his salary, which is always a good thing.

My comment is more a response to the extreme Butler loathing of the past two years. What's next -- dogs and cats, living together? Mass hysteria!
