The only negative experience I've had to date is: sending the owner a check for the deposit. Upon our return, deposit was returned to us minus the amount for exchange rate, which amounted to $50 or so for what was a 4 night stay. I wasn't impressed.

Is this a usual practice?

Nope, in fact I have never had to give a deposit that was returned to me later.

I am presuming this was a damage deposit?

Have any of you guys rented your place using one of these services that you can share? I'd like to rent my place out during Stampede as I will likely be out of town. With hotels going for $200-250 a night during that time I'm sure I can fetch at least that for my house. Any experience you can share would be appreciated.
