trading iginla is about the future, its not all about 1 player , for Calgary to be any good in the future they need to trade him as he is still a valuable asset that other teams would be interested in so anything that can make this team better in the future as a Stanley cup winner in the next 5 yeas so be it whether iginla or kipper they need to go unless you want to watch the flames be the last place team for years to come .
Any day now I expect Jay Feaster to announce a trade for Jerome Iginla. He will be questioned by the media as to why he traded the face of the franchise, and Feaster will say that his role as General Manager of the Flames is about building the most competitive team within the cap space, not about feathering the bed for Jerome Iginla to comfortably cruise into retirement with the organization, simply to cement a legacy and make for good PR.

Who is this Jerome you speak of? Any fan would know its Jarome, who never cruised into anything.
He's not scoring much, but he is playing hard, drawing players to him and setting up goals.
And so were other fan favorites that people never imagined we'd trade: Fleury, Niuwendyk, MacInnis, Suter, Roberts, and Otto. But they were all traded!
I also suspect a sizeable portion of the people who want him traded are made up of younger fans that just want something new to play with.
Personally, when I think about all the times he could of left us for greener pastures and bigger contracts on teams with better chances of winning - only to stay and re-sign here for less - it make me sad to see so many people turning on him now that he's getting older and not able to play like he once did. He stuck with us, why can't we stick with him?

I love Iggy as much as the next person, but don't think for a second that he wasn't ever getting paid fair, market value at any point during his time here.

My fav Flame of all time is Nieuwendyk so i'm definitely not in the "younger" crowd. For myself, I just want this team to start thinking about its future. It has nothing to do with how Jarome has been playing lately. The window of his big value is growing smaller every year and I definitely don't want to lose him for nothing.
A potential trade would benefit Iginla as well, as I don't see him winning a cup with the Flames any time soon.
When we acquired Iggy from Dallas that was one of the saddest days for me as my fav player had been traded. In the long run it helped the team trememdously.
I think the majority of people who want Iginla traded are thinking about the long term plan for the hometown heroes.
