Not worth it unless you can car pool with others. When you get 2-3 people all avoiding the $400 plane ticket, it starts to become worth it.
Good point about carpooling...but the food thing is relative (since you have to eat on those days anyways). It may only be the difference between home cooked meals and fast food...or if you pack food for the trip there is no difference at all.

I remember the days 15 years ago when I'd visit my buddies going out to UBC for a weekend and the weekly, text based Websaver email from Air Canada usually always had Vancouver on there, for $140, taxes in, return to Vancouver. Since then, the taxes and fees have tripled.

Cheapest I saw in last few years was during the Olympics, when AC had a lot more YYC/YVR flights. $69 each way, plus taxes, which was about $230. $400 is about as good as it gets.
