Good deal for Montreal. Ryder is a ufa and potting more goals right now. Cole is in a slump and has 3 years left at $4.5 million.

Looking the both up, they both lead their teams last year with 35 goals a piece. Joe must see something in Cole that he needed that makes Ryder expendable. I question some of the moves Nieuwendyk has been making, yet the Stars are performing better than what I expect of them, so who am I to question? I guess.

Wasn't Cole whining quite a bit post lockout and seemed really unhappy in Montreal. If I am not mistaken his daughter starts school next year and he was unhappy she needed to go to a bilingual school.
Probably just wanted to get the unhappy player out of the locker room, who he maybe asked for a trade.

Didn't he sign there freely? How can someone sign a lengthy contract in a city and then decide they aren't happy? I know I know, it happens all the time, but it pisses me off each time they do it.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun Further to @TSNBobMcKenzie, the Ryder-Cole trade still awaiting trade call. The Habs also get a draft pick in the deal. Cole waived NTC

Mike Heika @MikeHeika I'm hearing Ryder and a third round pick for Cole. Cole has this year and two more years at $4 million. Ryder can become UFA

Wow, good deal for Habs. Still don't get it from a Dallas perspective though.

He did not like the CBA that was signed and was contemplating retirement after this season because of it. I highly doubt he would leave $13 million on the table.

Now I am just waiting for the Montreal/LA deal. Both cleared some cap space in deals that seemed lopped sided.

The only thing i can think of is that Ryder did not want to re-sign and Dallas did not want picks and prospects back as the main part of the trade.
I don't think Cole is worth the money he is getting, and Montreal got lucky to get rid of that contract.

Apparently Whitney and Recchi were advocating Cole to Dallas managment.
