He's not NHL ready. Aliu was effective last night because he had no concern for his own safety. So this shouldn't be considered bad luck, but the expected outcome.

Arguing over which marginal/fringe player is more marginal/fringe is pretty comical.

Really the argument is whether or not Begin is valuable to this team or not right now. He has shown many reasons to suggest that he is in fact valuable to this team right now. Until there is a much better option available Steve will continue to contribute solid minutes to this team most nights which I will be happy to see.

Yup...hard to believe that anyone can be unhappy with Begin at his price and what he brings to a team completely void of his element.

There's a reason he's still in Albany, on his two-way contract. I'm taking Begin and his experience in an agitator/energy role over a marginal, fringe player at best who just dressed from 1 playoff game in NJ last year.

Edit: One-way contract.
That is a lot more than Begin has done over the past two seasons.

Not that I think that Sesito is the answer but it seems like odd things to harp on considering what Begin has (more appropirately hasn't) done lately.

Begin hasn't seemed to lose us any games this year which is good but he offers 0 to the team and is 35 so it seems odd to have him in the line-up.

If he brought energy, toughness, grit etc. maybe then you could see it. But he did always seem like a hardworker on and off the ice so maybe they like him there in practice working his tail off. It isn't going to make or break the Flames but you would think there could be someone else younger that could give us 8 minutes of nothing like Begin.

He reminds me a lot of Raffi Torres in that aspect of his play. I think if he's ever an NHLer, we'll have to deal with him being injury prone.

I don't think it is possible with Ferland being in the WHL again. I could be wrong.

Wilkes-Barre Scranton last I heard, but that was a PTO I think. Not sure if it expired or they kept him on.

Are we thinking of Tom Sestito - who's much bigger and plays for the Flyers?

I wasn't but maybe the original poster was.

I was just responding about Begin not Sestito.

Tim Sestito is basically a young Steve Begin... and he has no upside. At least the bigger Sestito would add size. If your choice is between Begin and Tim Sestito.. might as well stick with the guy you know assuming he's good in the room, etc.

My choice would be neither.

Perhaps you missed the GWG he had against Dallas that week? That's hardly nothing. And before you say it was just one game, he is a 4th line checker, he's not supposed to help out the team offensively night after night. So you clearly state "he hasn't lost us any games" and was directly responsible for helpibg win 1 game. I'd say that's pretty much the more than you could've asked for from the guy. Why do you want him replaced again?

Great he got one GWG on a luckish kind of play. That is now all it takes to get signed to an NHL deal? Sweet deal for him I guess.

I think he can be replaced because he doesn't bring physicality, energy, offense, defense to them team and he is a 35 year old on a team that needs more youth and needs to move away from old band-aid solutions.

I don't think it is a big deal if he is here or gone just don't understand the point of him being on the team when his role could be filled as good by someone younger who may develop as well.
