I think Brodie has shown a lot of growth this year but Wideman is hands down the best Flames D man so far. He has been all over the ice and has looked great. This guy wants to win and he brings a solid effort every game. I haven't seen a game yet where it didn't look like he was trying his hardest.

I caught that going through the thread and was surprised.
Then I looked at the poster who gave him the C and it made sense.
To each their own I suppose.
That being said, I actually agree re: the ratings of the other defensemen.

Expectations and hate for Gio at an all time high......he's still so much better than Sarich, Smith and Butter ......soon when he's blocking shots when no one else is the hate will disappear.
Wowzers.....and I thought I hated Butler

What does that have to do with it? He is still playing at an A level.
The funny thing is that there is no way Brodie would be at an A if he wasn't paired with Wideman.

I actually don't mind your grade, seems pretty good for Wideman. But wanted to ask based on your comment, he's a + player, playing on the 2nd pairing and is currently on pace for 60pts in a full NHL season right now. Early days, but if that continued, what more do you want for your 5.2M?

Against NHL players?
Brodie has been great but he still looks a little weak at times against bigger forwards.

Expectations should be higher than those guys. He makes 4x as much as each of them, has a long term deal and an NTC? Of course expectations on him are higher, has nothing to do with hate. Think it's been well established people are mostly grading against expectation, there for an A for Gio means a lot better play than an A for Sarich would, because his potential is so much higher.

Were you not watching the AHL while the NHL wasn't playing? There were NHL guys in every lineup.

So it seems that we have a consensus that Giordano is having his worst season in years.
It makes no sense in that Bouwmeester (like the start of last season) is doing so much better with Gio as his partner.
I was willing to give Butler some slack as Bouwmeester started last season playing better than he did with Regehr.
Have to admit that Bouwmeester is playing better than all expectations that he has established over the last 2 years but he seems to be consistently a partner killer.
