While racism is a very real issue in hockey, and Kane may have some leg to stand when dealing with minuscule issues, the idea that racism forms his entire public perception is ridiculous.
Agreed, but it doesn't look like he's saying that.

He acknowledged that not all of the criticism has racial tones.
"I don't feel like a victim and I don't want to be perceived as one," he said.

I guess the guy who threw a banana at Wayne Simmonds last year wasn't technically making a "comment," but you have to be joking if you think that black players don't face any racism.

It's hard to say whether he's overreaching without the context of the interview, but there was definitely a different tone to the reaction to this...
...than there was to this...
There is not only a difference of around $220,000 between how much Kane is holding vs. how much Commodore is holding, but a good portion of the issue that people had with Kane's photo was that he posted it during the lockout when NHL players were being greedy with how much more they wanted from the owners. Kane also looks like a bigger ass in his photo than Commodore does in his. I don't think race played any part in how or why people reacted the way they did to Kane's photo.
... He was right on the money. I read that article earlier today and just knew Calpuck would react defensive. Why don't you stop beating around the bush and just say you wish he acted the white way
If you asked Rob Parker, he would probably tell you that Iginla is a cornball brother.
Iginla fits in well in the NHL and could be described as a typical good ole Canadian boy. If Kane played in the NFL or NBA his actions that raise the ire of NHL fans, wouldn't even get him noticed. Heck, even if he was a Raptor in Toronto, this wouldn't get him noticed. Hockey is a pretty conservative sport. The culture of hockey doesn't have much if any black culture influencing it compared to other major league sports. Not that thats good or bad but thats the way it currently is.

Ha, right. Anyone with a smart phone that wins stacks of money in Las Vegas while gambling would snap a picture of that kind of winnings. It's not like the guy just took some money out from a debit machine with the explicit purpose of showing off his richness.

Yeah but it doesn't change the fact that even if he was a nobody, white guy you know people would be rolling their eyes at that picture. I understand the cause but you guys are digging way too deep here.
The last thread on here about Kane was filled with thinly veiled racism, so I can't say I disagree with him.
He's gonna go broke soon, right guys?
From the other thread...

Keep in mind, this is on the board of a team that doesn't play the Jets or encounter Evander Kane in any way ever.
So if he's getting that reaction from people with no investment in liking or disliking him, what are the odds critics closer to home might be similarly motivated?

I'd roll my eyes, but if I didn't forget about it forever a second later, it would only be because I was jealous of the fat stacks of cash in his hands, and the calibre of hookers it no doubt procured.
My first thought upon seeing this title was "What race is Patrick Kane?"
I was just about to comment that a lot of the criticism Evander Kane gets doesn't seem different than what the other Kane receives for acting immaturely. But it's not like I follow either case very carefully.
Wayne Simmonds got a banana thrown at him during a shootout in last year's preseason, and was racially insulted by Russian fans during the lockout. That's a lot to endure in one year for an individual.
Kane uploads some ridiculous twitter pictures and gets some well deserved insults for it and HE'S the one that runs to the media playing the race card. Unbelievable. Stop uploading twitter pics and play the game you're being paid a lot of money to play.
