Hey, I shared a story and invited others to do likewise in this thread. He was man enough to own up. That's why we're here.

I would never google a girl before a first date, half the fun of a first date is learning about her through something called conversation. And having a date with a psycho either leads to some incredible stories later or an awesome new tattoo of a pentagram and the number 666 that appeared on my chest sometime during the night when I was sleeping.
As for an ex, why would I bother to look them up, I think one of the greatest things that I've learned is this thing called detachment, never be friends with an ex, never call them or write them.

Yup, I Facebook'd a girl I dated briefly long distance (she was a New Jersey girl living in Philly). Turns out she got married, and on her facebook there were pictures of when her husband popped the question, at a Phillies game. I have to admit I laughed when I saw that, I guess now I can say I know one of those people that got proposed to at a sporting event!
Thanks thread! Rating it 5 golden manbabies.

Nothing wrong with googling someone you are about to date, they could have a violent past. An ex thought is just kinda like stalking.

Knowledge is power. I Google search everyone I meet, shortly after I'm introduced.

It's nothing like stalking.
Let me give another real life example. A professonal group was offering a "speed networking" event. It was just like it sounds, a professional version of speed dating. Who was on the list of attendees? One of the sisters of an ex. I'd previously met the other sister, but not this one. It was kept on a professional level, but there was natural curiosity. Yeah, I mentioned the sister in the meeting, and later googled her, but pther effort was made to "arrange a coincidence."

I prefer not to google or anything. I like to figure crap out myself. I'd rather go in with a clear mind. Peoples past are peoples past. We've all done things we are proud of (not publically) or not proud of.

Nah, the breakup was more the woman's idea. A couple months later, there were subtle hints about getting back together, which didn't impress me. It was already past history.
It was interesting to meet the sister, but strictly a professional meeting.

It is a little like stalking, you are getting information on someone without their knowledge. Sure it is public knowledge but if you saw that person on the street would you say "oh ya I googled you the other day"? No you look like a lunatic.

News flash for you - the overwhelming majority of information gathered on people is without their knowledge. Want to know what else is shocking? Sometimes people talk about you when you're not present!

Want to know want to know what fascinating information came up? That she's belongs to a yacht club. We've had zero contact since the 90's. Yeah, soooo much like stalking.
More stalking takes place on these forums by the new breed of obnoxious internet generation punks trying to settle old scores against people they'll never meet. To me, that's a lot more frigged up than finding out a random fact about a female whom you'd some form of intimate relationship.

We're still allowed to do some research to find out if someone is single, right?

What happened to the good old days of hiring a private investigator to keep track of ex's?
So many unemployed PI's now
