The expiry date is at the end of the 2020-2021 season. The owners or the players can opt out at the end of the 2016-2017 season.

The countdown is on!

It is a decade long agreement but both sides can and probably will opt out early. There are only 2400 days until the owners can opt out of it (just under 343 weeks), 2414 days (just under 345 weeks) for the players.

I'm sure he'd love to be the man who caused work stoppages in three different sports. That's a nearly unbeatable legacy for a mercenary slime ball.

Fher is going for the hatrick of work stoppages.

The star based nature of the NBA will be good for him. Guys like Durant and Labron are legitamately under paid for what they do. The second tier interchangeable guys are overpaid.
So Fehrs focus will be to raise the max contract a guy can take and push for more leniency in the luxury tax. I think he will have succes their compared to hockey where the 2nd and third lines are almost as important as the top line to win cups.

Funny. I thought it was his mother that Don Fehr and his union brethren filled with love.

So long as the only leverage players can employ is a withdrawal of services and the only effective answer to that tactic is owners withdrawing the venue to play on . . . . . . you're pretty much guaranteed a lockout.

Players really do set the agenda with owners reacting to their tactic with the only effective answer.

This agreement will go the full 10 years though. No opt out by either side. Fehr and Bettman won't be around by that time. Will it make a difference? Doubtful.
