I can't pick either one because if we were operating under baseball rules, Sutter would not be going into arbitration offering only $1.4M and Kelley would not go into arbitration requesting $4M

i tried to objectively vote and came up with the 4. I think he's worth more than 1.4 and that the arbitrator will agree. If 4 is the only other option i picked 4 and I think they would to unfortunately for us.

1.4 - assuming its a one year deal. This gives him a chance to prove he is the real deal next season and then cash in big time. 4 million for 38 games is simply not justifiable.

The thing is in baseball the offer from Sutter would likely be $2.4 and from Kelly $3. The all-or-nothing approach makes the offers more realistic.

I think they should go with a smaller dollar amount as he hasn't yet shown enough and for long enough to get a big raise, i feel they will give him no more than 2.75mil

I think this poll may be a little flawed. If arbitration truly was done baseball style, I think the two numbers presented would be much closer to each other and we wouldn't see a disparity.
That being said, if I had to choose between the two, I would go with Sutter's offer. I just can't see paying Kipper that much yet.

Simple: Sutter at 1.4.
Why? I don't think anyone with one good season under their belt can possibly be worth 4 million - that's proven over several seasons money. Lace the 1.4 with sweet performance bonuses and you've got one kickass contract.
|
But one could argue that Turek got $4millions based on 20 Flames' games.

Yes, and that is why Craig Button is no longer working with the Flames.
In all fairness though, Roman was the previous years Jennings Award winner and took his team to the WC Finals.

Roman Turek was also about to become an UFA, Roman Turek had also had 3 previous years as a starter, Roman Turek was also making 2 million dollars at the time.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
To add to that, Turek two seasons before his big contract led his team to the President's Trophy, took them to the third round of the playoffs and was a runner-up for the Vezina.

That was my point though ... to show
a) what would happen in baseball's arbitration with these two sides
B) who seems to be the most "out of whack"
If Kelly went into arbitration with 3.0 and Sutter had 1.4 I would guess Kelly's side would have won this poll.
If Sutter was 2.0 and Kelly 4.0, it would have been a 99% win for Sutter.

Not completely relevent to the topic, but Kipper wouldnt even be arbitration eligible under baseball's CBA. He does not have the service time. The Flames could outright sign him for, I believe, a 10% raise.
