Hope it's true, it's time for a new console. Even if the PS3 still hasn't been used to it's full potential yet, it may never as most games are made to suit the less powerful XBox and ported over to the PS3. So Xbox's limited potential prevents game makers from using the PS3 to it's full potential.
A new generation is due.
|
lol @ blaming the xbox 360 for this generation. The only thing the PS3 is better than the 360 is it has more memory. It isn't like the PS3 has that much memory in the first place, nor does it use it effectively.
Both consoles are dated.

I'm trying to be proactive and see what exactly Sony's stock did the day after they announced the PS3... and it went down? What the hell?
It went up on the 19th, but not by much.

IIRC the PS3 didn't impress anyone when announced and sales weren't amazing for the first while. I remember it being super expensive (at the time) and with the xbox 360o having a years head start it was slow sales initially.

I seem to remember my brother dropping $700-800 on a PS3, second controller and few games. And they were all 'meh' games.
Madness.

I don't quite get this line of thinking. I'll be getting a PS4 to play new games with a new controller and new functions. If I want to play PS3 games with a DualShock3 ill just... Hook up my PS3. Backwards compatibility is a nice feature but its hardly make or break on a new console...

Not going to bother with a PS4 until we find out what the console-exclusive titles will be. Even a brand new console will still pale in comparison to a high end gaming PC, and we're seeing more and more developers simultaneously release for PC and console.
Hell, the only reason I own a PS3 is for Red Dead Redemption (not on PC), and Quantic Dream's latest games (PS3 exclusivity contract).

I hope they end up admitting that the xbox controller has much better analog triggers and sticks. The 'finger slide off' design is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

Alright Uncharted too (I do own all 3). But only because Naughty Dog is one of my favorite console developers. Love me some Crash Bandicoot/Jak and Daxter.
The Last Of Us is already pre-ordered too.

Damnit. I just picked up a PS3 this winter too lol. Hopefully I get a year's worth of joy out of it if PS4 comes out next winter. Although so far it's gotten limited use. Only played Little Big Planet 2 and Journey on it so far.

He wasn't 100% inaccurate. The XBOX 360 was much easier to program for and hence they designed the games for the XBOX and ported them to the PS3.
PS3 exclusives have been head and shoulders above any mulit-platform games for the PS3 this generation. As those in house developers actually managed to perfect the difficult process of programming for the PS3.

Bingo and it took them almost until end of this generation's life cycle to finally figure out the PS3. Having owned both essentially since launch, I spent the first five years buying anything cross platform on the XBox360 just because it looked and ran better. Which sucked because I just prefer the Playstation controller. The last 2 years I find that I've been buying most cross platform on PS3 for the same reason.
Too little too late. I'm glad Sony finally smartened up and aren't using proprietary chip technology in their current gen system. Well, that statement isn't 100% true - there is nothing wrong with using proprietary solutions as long as they provide the necessary tools and libraries to leverage it. Which they did not for the PS3.

I'll probably wait a year or so after the PS4 and 720 launches before I purchase either. I have a PC that should be capable of playing any game that's multiplatform and any game that's console exclusive I can wait and get when it drops in price along with hopefully a console price drop. Besides I'm sure I'm not the only one that has a huge backlog of games to play and get to first.

For starters, they're both based on the same graphics card.
And second, a good PC will school both of them... PC has them beat before they come into existence. No need to wait to make that declaration!

Needs more/better games.
Also, the tablet controller is a gimmick and should have shipped with a top-tier screen. As it is, it has very minimal viewing angles and washed out color. Playing anything that involves rotating the controller and watching the tablet screen just causes annoyance and a sub-par viewing experience.

Wow this is the first time a console is coming out and I don't need to beg my parents to buy it for me!
I'll buy it launch day and continue to only use it as a glorified blu-ray/netflix player with the occasional Fifa and COD

Looking forward to the upgrade, but to be honest it seems as though every new generation the differences are smaller and smaller. Or maybe the differences are not as easy to notice. Either way - BRING ON NEXT GEN SPORTS GAMES!!!

Backwards compatability is a must for me.

PS4 seems like a huge change from PS3 though, has the PS3 chipset been optimized and cost-reduced to the degree that they could include it in the PS4 like the PS3 had basically a PS2 inside it?
I'm skeptical.
