If it does turn out to be cancer, the types of cancer in a young male (which I'm guessing you are) incidentally picked up on abdominal CT with lymph nodes are typically lymphoma or testicular cancer, both of which tend to have a great prognosis with modern day medicine.

Easier said than done of course, but you need to remain positive/upbeat.

This is great advise. While I've never experienced this myself, I've had plenty of friends and family that have gone through this.
STAY POSITIVE and let the doctors do their thing. DO NOT stress about this. Go about your normal routines.
You're in my thoughts and prayers. I am hoping for the best for you.

Look at all your options!
With all due respect to Doctors/Cancer Centre assistance, you need to look at ALL options available. A diet change and other lifestyle changes (exercise and mental stimulation) can go along way with assisting whatever medical treatments you decide on!!
Talk to people - both my parents passed away from this disease in the last 24 months and neither of them really wanted to talk about it - sometimes keeping this all bottled up makes it worse! Additionally, stop giving the word so much attention - it loves it!
Good Luck my friend!

The problem is they didn't like what they saw with some lymph nodes being too big, and too many of them. I don't know. It's all complicated medical junk and I'm seeing another specialist soon and have another CT scan in 6 months. Worst case scenario is I have leukaemia or something, or she said we'd look at my bone marrow. That sounds awful.
I don't plan on telling my friends until more tests are done, but it's 130 in the morning and I can't sleep. And I'm kinda petrified of dying young. I'm hoping this will help me.
Thanks for listening.
edit: I hope this doesn't come off as a "look at me" post, I just haven't had a chance to talk to this with anyone yet and appreciate the chance to.

Just to maybe ease your mind a bit. I had what they thought was Kidney stones a few months ago and ended up in the hospital with tremendous pain. They did a bunch of tests (CT, Ultrasounds, bloodwork) and found a swollen lymph node and other areas around my left side. It was determined that it was an infection (not sure how I got it) and it was cleared up with antibiotics. Hopefully, it something simple like this for you.

The key is stay positive, you never know. My mother was diagnosed with cancer last year, but due to a variety of reasons (PM me for details) despite having a large tumor, the cancer was localized and she didn't even have to undergo chemo. After surgery to remove the tumor, all she had was 16 days of radiation.
You never know... everyone who has successfully beat cancer has been super positive. Best wishes and keep us posted!

the main cause of swollen lymph nodes would be infection

As many have said, stay positive. There is no reason to worry now. If it does end up being worst case scenario you'll have plenty of time for that anyway.
I would imagine if things were as serious as you are afraid they might be, the docs would be scheduling the second CT scan for a lot sooner. Yeah, I know they are hard to get in Alberta in the best of times, but even here they don't like to let cancer linger for 6 months while they diagnose it.
Sometimes the worst thing is not knowing, which you are going through right now, especially when you are in pain. I hope everything goes well for you and you are able to get a little peace of mind in the meantime.

Divorce, Cancer, getting laid off, #### is rarely as bad as it seems at 1.30 am (not that that helps at 1.30am when you can't sleep).
You'll get through it and be fine.

If it's really eating you up inside, have you thought about going abroad and paying for a CT scan privately?
My dad had chronic pain in his shoulder but couldn't get in for one in Calgary so last summer when he was in Poland, he paid $100 and got one done. It's just an option if it's really eating you up inside.

I'm trying more and more to take this attitude with everything bad that comes my way. I just think "what's the worst that can happen?" and then things don't seem so bad and life goes by much more smoothly when you can let go of your worries about things out of your control and just live.

You don't have to go abroad, you can pay for one privately here. Though sounds like more expensive than what your dad paid. Course you have to figure in travel too.

stay strong and talk to your closest friends about what you are going thru. friends and family will help you through whatever comes up.
until you know exactly what it may be, don't worry too much about it. you will never be able to ignore it, but dwelling on this may cause you more harm, you just never know.

What a difference a day makes. I went to bed last night worrying and wondering about what would happen in the next few months, and when I woke up I had a call from my Mom. She works at FMC and she has friends who are very experienced Doctors. The person who did my CT scan was only a 2nd year resident and according to my Moms friend who's very experienced in Leukaemia said that because I had a flu earlier in the week it's to be expected the results I had and since my white blood cells are good there's really nothing to worry about. I'm still going to do a follow up of course to be safe but I don't feel like I have an inevitable fight on my hands now like I did last night.
Thanks to everyone who posted kind words and read my post last night, it helped to talk about it. Especially thanks for Nuclearfart for taking the time to be write up such a informative reply

Glad to see you are in a better frame of mind and that you have a logical and not so scary explanation for your results.
I recently had a health scare too. I was rejected for life insurance, and all they could tell me was that I didn't pass the health test and the results were forwarded to my doctor. All I could do was wait until my doctor called. I panicked and started over thinking everything. Maybe my recent exhaustion was something serious and not from me being stressed about work, life and others things. Maybe this, maybe that. I was a wreck for a week and a half.
Then my doctor called me in and asked me to get in ASAP. They made room for me to come see him the next day (normally takes 3 weeks to get in). It turns out my blood sugar was high and he wanted me tested again. Yes, blood sugar was indeed high, and I have been diagnosed with diabetes. What a relief!
Diabetes is something not to be taken lightly, but it is something you can live with. It is something that can be managed. I have had an easy time managing it so far. I've learned who to have a properly balanced diet. I've lost the weight I've been long wanting to lose. I have found the motivation to cut out the bad sugary things in life. I feel great!
So, I had a scare, it turned out to be not so bad and my health has improved as a result. Worrying didn't do anything to help me and I worried for nothing. So, don't worry about what you may or may not have. Worry about things you control, like how you are getting to work, what you are having for lunch, etc. etc. Worrying will only make you feel worse.

Doesn't it feel strange writing a heartfelt thanks to a guy named "Nuclearfart"? That is one facet of message boards I am not sure I will ever get used to.
